Trivia #4
This one isn't so much of a trivia as a picture contest...

Post a picture of a Halloween decoration you love. It can be however small or grandiose as you wish. Whether it is a picture of your cat wearing homemade bat wings or a picture of a neighbor's 4,286 piece Halloween landscape....take an amazing picture that is Halloween-y and has good composition. (If it isn't typical Halloween, include a brief, 1-3 sentence explanation of why it is Halloween-y to you).

All entries must be received no later than 8pm EST tomorrow (10/26). All entries must be of pictures taken this year. (2023)

Have fun with this! I look forward to seeing all of your pictures! This will be the final 'trivia' before the swap.

(I changed/updated the time deadline for this.)

Despite having my own turkeys, I did not know that before this trivia question.

Could I please have the orange cayenne?

I don't really have a good Halloween picture.... the last few years, we'll make mummy dogs and watch Christmas movies with the kids rather than taking them out. We just aren't a fan of the day. I can probably find a good pic of one of my wife's mummy dogs, but that would be about it

Hermann, my "teaching" skeleton, comes out of the closet he retired to when I retired from the clinic. At the clinic, we used to find him a new outfit every Halloween. My favorite was a T-shirt that read "I used up all of my sick days, so I'm calling in dead!"

I don't know who looks more spooked - Hermann or Cowboy!

Hermann, safely, back in his closet, looking more relaxed.

My favorite halloween picture this year! We have a foster child with us and he said this was the first time he got to carve a pumpkin. It makes it all worth it!

Thank you for sharing, Julie, Diana, and Brad!

There are not a lot of photo entries this year (seems to confirm an earlier assertion that this is a particularly busy year for everyone), and I smiled at every entry, soooooooo......

I'm going to award a prize for each picture, going in order of entry. (Julie picks first, then Diana, then Brad.)

Thank you to those of you that participated, the pictures are always one of the best parts of the trivia sessions, I love seeing what you came up with!

Julie -I laughed out loud when I read your post that you are that neighbor with the gazillion halloween decorations. I'm not sure why I was surprised, I probably shouldn't be! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Love it!

Diana: "My favorite was a T-shirt that read 'I used up all of my sick days, so I'm calling in dead!'" Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Brad - That is so sweet! What a gift.....it's the simple things that are so big, right? What a great first-ever carving, too!

Awww yay thank you! Lovey dubby

I'd love the green washi tape, such a clever idea for closing seed packets!

Julie and Diana,

I'm so glad you guys placed dibs on the washi tape, I was beginning to wonder if I should have extolled its benefits before the trivia started, LoL! It's very simple (and not terribly expensive to purchase, for future reference), but it is such a helpful item to use! A lot of my seed packets from this year have the gummy stuff that is reusable once or twice, but for all of my other seed packets (and after these have been opened a couple of times), this washi tape is so useful!! It helps eliminate the spills, and for poppy seeds and other tiny seeds, it's a necessity!

I was considering it myself, but ultimately didn't. Love the idea though

I wish I'd thought of it earlier, because what I do now is roll down the seed envelope several times or put the seeds into a plastic zip bag and back into the envelope, and both those things are much more of a pain in the butt than simply using washi tape! Brilliant! 😁

No rush. but I would love more detail on how you're using the washi tape. I happen to have some lying around here somewhere.

I don't even know exactly what it is, but I was using masking tape, so there's room for improvement. I also want more details. I'm all ears!

Washi tape is similar to blue/green painter's masking tape, but an even weaker adhesive. It's also a thinner paper, less wide than masking tape, and usually decorated. It's very easy to tear off and it comes up again extremely easily. It's often used decoratively on things you don't want to harm (some use it in scrapbooking so they can remove photos or mementos easily and without destroying either the page or the item) and/or things you want to move repeatedly. Even though it's a weak adhesive, it's usually pretty reusable, but even if it's not, it's quick to grab another strip to replace it.

I have a bunch I used for decorating a bridal shower book but it NEVER occurred to me to use it to reclose seed packets! I never want to use tape on the packets, not even blue masking tape, because that adhesive is still too strong and will tear the packet.

But washi tape DEFINITELY WON'T.

And now I'll have veggie themed tape!! 😁

So many great choices, it was hard to decide! But I think I will go with the moonbeam tomatoes! It sounds like an interesting one to add to my collection.

Thank you Libby!!
