Alex, if you ever grow that one - they love being planted into a coconut shell.
Here is an older picture, my husband holding it. The Coconut shell is still in the center.

At one point it started to decline, so I restarted some pieces. I am happy it is taking off again!
The scent is like sweet honey, very strong in sunshine.
Showing the coconut shell, ca 20 years ago it looked like that.

Wow lovely start of November orchid blooms Ursula! It is hard to believe it is now November.

I dread the cold winter 🥶 I am maxed out on 1 camping tent. I do have a second camping tent as a back up.

Gigi, I am not too fond of NJ Winters either. But I am always envious of you Floridians in wonderful warm temps? I guess around here the seasons dictate a kind of finality, right? No zone pushing.... Smiling

So right, Ursula it's always too tempting to push the zones down here - some years you win with a warm winter and very little scrambling to cover things. Other years it's a struggle and repeated schlepping into and out of the house and the hoop house for me. At least once you move everything into your greenhouse, and garage you are all set for winter. We're in denial until it actually gets cold here. Tonight is our first night below 60 for this fall. I've planted out a few of the nasturtiums but the rest of the seedlings are coming back into the house.

I've just finished planting 8 different kinds of tomatoes in my Earth Boxes. I think I may have jinxed us for a cold winter this year . . . and 3 of the Earth Boxes are not inside the hoop house at the moment. We'll see.

Here's Yellow Bird in her final golden glow before she starts to decline. These flowers have lasted almost a month since starting out, thanks to some nice cool nights.

Love the sweet little flowers on your Ornithophora, and this is a much better name than Gomesa for that plant! Darned orchid boffins naming things after themselves. Grumbling

Wow, that's really interesting. No drainage holes in the coconut shell? What is the substrate? I do have a coconut shell, will keep that in mind

Isotria verticillata, I think. It's either that or Medeola virginiana. There have been I. verticillata sightings nearby, and also, the two raised leaves in the whorl makes me lean towards it....

My big 'clump' of a V. Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird' has a whole nice new spike blooming! I tracked it down by the fragrance "what's that lovely perfume . . . " turned the plant around and there it was!

Alex, I realized I never answered your question regarding the Ornithophora radicans.
The Coconut shell had a drainage hole drilled on the bottom, and - when I added the plant to the shell, I anchored it with a bit of coconut fiber. But after a few years the plant tilted and made such a dense clump outside of the shell, it made its own medium. It just used the Coconut shell as an anchor.

While scrolling around the internet, I have found a few more orchid species that I find quite pretty...
Pleurothallis cypripedioides
Phymatidium falcifolium (I really like this one, I can't find where to get it for a price I can afford though)
Isabelia pulchella

Oh, also, how fast are Cattleyas supposed to grow? Mine has not put out any new growth since getting it Thinking . Or it put out a single leaf a little after getting it... I'll go check, I can't remember.

Have you looked at Andy's Orchids? Its one of my favorite orchid (and tropical plant) nurseries. Get on their mailing list and wait for a sale. They just finished one for 20% off - that pays for shipping.

https://andysorchids.com/pictu...

It says contact them for a pot size price. A pot will be even less (I think about $25).
