Looking forward to watching this Neorgelia sport come into its own this year.
Hoping the coloration holds Crossing Fingers!

That sport is interesting, Scott.
I almost missed the blooms on this Aechmea phanerophlebia, I had moved it out of the back garden when we got the new puppy, it is razor sharp, but really cool blooms.

Gina, I have not gone anywhere.
Having my home remodeled in 2023 has taken time away from posting here. Now trying to figure out how to make the gardening chores more manageable. I keep asking myself why I planted so much.😂

We got a floor retiled. It was so traumatic that we are scared to do the remodels we want to do on 2 bathrooms and the kitchen LOL

We all dislike going to the doctor's office. These Guzmanias were a pleasant site to see upon entering.

My Billbergia 'Flamenco' is giving me four blooms at one time. This is on of my favorites from Bird Rock Tropical, one plant a few years ago has made a nice clump, the blooms look red, white and blue instead the the typical purple.

Hello I am trying to figure out why my pups won't root. Also no idea what species it is. Please see photos- the pups have been separated from mother for a couple-3 months. They are growing upward and outward but no roots. About 2 weeks ago I got a plastic container to help with humidity, maybe that'll help. Thank u so much!

'Sister' it with your adult plant. Slide it into the space between the leaves and the bloom on the parent plant and leave it for a while

@katieechoe. Your plant is a Guzmania.
Don't be concerned if they take awhile to develop roots, most take two to three years before they even flower again. Be careful not to let the soil get too soggy, those types can get root rot if water logged. Just give it time, don't keep disturbing by checking for roots. It is always best to leave the pups on the mother plant as long as you can, at least until they develop a complete rosette and about a third of the size of the mother plant, they get their energy from the mother plant. The one you show, looks pretty developed and should be fine.

I want to redo a front flowerbed that now has some perennials that never seem to flower for me with bromeliads. They need to be cold hardy to at least 20-22. We haven't gotten those temps in recent history, we have seen 24-25. The proms I have already only place all tolerate that well. Daily Bilbergias, Aechmeas, and Neoregelias. I have some Nidularium in a shady place, these new ones would need to tolerate full half day sun.
I'll probably pare off some pups of existing stands to use, but I'd also like someone ones, especially large growers to make an impact.
These are a few that have been in the yard for 15-20 years and never have trouble. Recommend me some others. I'd

Hey Gina, just seeing your post. This chart shows cold tolerance and I have found it to be pretty accurate. It is pretty dated, many genus changes, but gives you an idea.
https://www.fcbs.org/articles/...

I have Alcantarea imperialis (used to be Vriesea Imperialis) I have had it for probably 8 years or more, very cold hardy, it can burn in too much sun, I had to move mine under oak canopy, good morning sun.

I have a several varieties of the Orlandiana Group, all are cold hardy, they are prone to sun damage more than cold damage. Black Beauty is my favorite of the collection. This is the whole cluster, there are about a dozen plants there, it's about 8 years old. Been through a lot of cold winters over the years.
