Agree, I probably wouldn't wait either. What kind of roses are they? In my limited experience with roses in AL so far, it's the hot dry weather that is more likely to kill a rose. The more time a plant has to establish roots before that gets here, the more likely it will be able to survive.
A more significant question might be about the soil. Roses don't do well in un-gardened soil, like that recently reclaimed from grass for example. It takes a few years of adding organic matter to build a soil that is more to their liking.
