This nice weather prompted me to spread some black mulch, which happened to be very wet. I had on gloves, but all that did was hold the black dye in place to allow my fingernails to soak up more of the color. I need a better option. Which gloves do you prefer? Thank you!

I've been using the Atlas gloves for a long time. One pair usually gets me through all the spring/early summer work and most of the late summer cleanup before my fingernails make holes in the tips. I just ordered 4 new pair, they came in a bundle of 4, so I should be all set for a year or two.

I use the nitrile gloves, too. I don't know if they would keep your nails clean in the situation you describe, but they are great for weeding, digging, planting, etc.

I have some leather-palmed gloves for pulling pricky vines and heavier work.

I am somewhat limited in choices because I need a women's small or extra-small.

Dealing with mulch can be "pokey" with shards and splinters puncturing nylon and nitril so I tend to lean towards leather gloves for that task. Here are my favorite choices.

Tillman 1424 - Limbing, pruning, brush cleanup, mulch spreading.

Tillman 1761 Nitrile Rubber Coated - weeding, dead heading roses, light duty tasks.

I get these at my local Airgas, Matheson, Praxxair or any welding supply house in your town.
A garden requires patient labor and attention. Plants do not grow merely to satisfy ambitions or to fulfill good intentions. They thrive because someone expended effort on them.
