I am really shocked that my first bloom is this early in March. Usually blooms start on the last few days of the month .... but not this year!

Voila Francois is one of longest residents in my garden. She decided to bloom and I just got out there to take the picture. I'm getting better after a sinus infection from so much pollen in the air. Anyway. Here is Voila!

Hurray! First daylily bloom. Voila Francois is looking good Arlene. I wonder if the other Florida gardens will be early this year too? Are your other daylilies scaping?

Tim Bell posted a pic on Face Book last week of scapes in his South Georgia garden. I've never had scapes this early, but I'm in central Georgia, about two hours north of him.

Char, I have two other daylilies with scapes--Nature Lover with 3 and Spice Market with 5.

In previous years, here are the actual first bloom dates:
2019-4/1 Orange Spice
2020-3/26 Can't Touch This
2021-4/9 Seedling 18-1
2022-3/27 Dutch Yellow Truffle
2023-3/28 Lavender Lighthouse
In none of these years were there repeat first time bloomers. In my garden, it's a different cultivar setting the standard each year.

I have no blooms yet, but I saw my first scape today, on Smiling Cobra. Usually Bitsy is first, but not this year.

A second daylily bloomed this morning--Orange Spice. It's a Dan Trimmer daylily, and the bloom is 7.5" across.

The weather has been weird in south-central east coast of Florida this year so far. Cooler (low 40s), then quite warm (near 90). My plants are looking confused. I saw 1 scape on one of my daylilies, but until it blooms, I'm not sure what it is. Usually by now, several of the few daylilies I have would have scapes, but not this year,
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.

I saw a scape this morning on Burning Hot Lava, which is always the first to bloom in my garden. But this scape is on a plant that was received from Wynn's a week ago, after being in the postal system for 10 days.

We are expecting rain today, hopefully more scapes in a week or so.

Ive already had a bloom on Sherry Candy...got too lazy to get a picture. Seems really early for me, too. Ive got a few scapes coming up, but they are still a week or two from blooming.

Yay. The season has begun.
I haven't seen any scapes as of yet, but our white iris are blooming and purple ones are coming. Hopefully our daylilies are next. Hurray!
