Prunus serrulata 'Kwanzan'.is a good possibility with double pink flowers.
Definitely a cherry tree..Prunus sp.
As previously mentioned there are many Prunus sp and named cultivars.
Flowers look pink to me...there are no cherry trees with purple petals.

Most Japanese flowering cherries have flower petals with splits or divots out of the tips including Kwanzan. Other types of cherries do not. Go take a closer look at the flowers.

This is the clearest pic I could find on www to show what Lucy68 means.

The final colour of the fully open leaves comes into the equation...are they green or purplish
Link below is from a grower in UK showing which Japanese cherry trees he sells...35 are listed.

I suggested Kwanzan because it is the most common double pink Japanese Cherry. If you look at the first picture there is a noticeable split in a petal of the topmost open flower.

I was thinking 'horses not zebras'.

I agree Kwanzan was my first thought. The zebras would be either plums or crabapples.

It's not been thirty five days and all of the flora has disappeared and replaced with tons of green leaves.

I didn't expect that, I thought it was all over !

I'll check back, but likely nothing for a fortnight.

If it's Kwanzan, or most other flowering cherries, it won't have any fruit. The leaves are very unplum-like and very cherry-like.
