A few weeks ago, a girl/woman in Las Vegas was wanting a certain plant, and I offered to send her a few fans for shipping only... Mind you that I paid $50 plus shipping for my start. She was all excited, and I sent six fans because most were small. Not one single word! I sent her a mail to remind her of the shipping cost, and she has just blown me off. This isn't the first time that I have been taken by people on our forum, which is precisely the reason why I have no desire to sell plants! This same woman had a long list of plants she was wanting. I hope others didn't fall for it.

Always get people to pay upfront before shipping out anything. Cash on delivery is not a good business model (I know you are not trying to make money, but still, they can pre-pay an estimate for shipping).

I assume the tracking number indicated the package got there OK?

Perhaps the check is.....ahem....in the mail? Crossing Fingers!

Sorry Deryll
I find most of us daylily nuts are really good people we can all trust. Thay's why it's such a bummer, and surprise, when a rotten apple shows up.

I'm very sorry to hear you didn't receive payment for shipping as she promised.
You said it was someone "on our forum", do you mean the Daylilies forum or somewhere else on the NGA site? Where did you see her long list or plants, in a thread, tmail....? If I can get a few answers, maybe you can tmail me with more info, I'll see if there's anything that can be done.

I have to agree with Emma that the majority of us daylily nuts are good people and it is rare to find a bad apple. I've had nothing but positive experiences sharing daylilies with our Daylilies forum members.

Thanks for your thoughts and support, but it was only 12.45 and I think I can survive without it. And yes, it was on our Daylily forum. She had a couple lists of plants she was wanting, and yes, there was tracking to where it was delivered 3-28 to Las Vegas...... I was just venting.

I also want to clarify that this incident has no bearing with contact I have had with some daylily "friends" with whom I will often trade. If it is seeds, plants or pollen, I am a daylily nutcase myself, and I am eager to further someone's addiction if I can, but she was a stranger, and that just caused some hard feelings. Now watch, she will contact me later saying she had been hit by a bus and I will feel badly for airing it. Thinking

She last posted on the NGA 31st March, so may possibly be on vacation.

But venting is good, as was the heads-up warning just in case. Thumbs up

Personally, I have had 100% positive experiences trading with people on the forum. Last fall I gave daylilies away for postage. I sent daylilies to several NGA members who had never posted on the daylilies forum (as well as several who were daylily forum regulars). They all sent postage promptly. I will probably make the same offer this fall to make room for the daylilies I still have in pots.

That said, I am really sorry this happened to you, Derryl. You got a bad apple.

Three weeks is a long time to not hear a peep out of someone who received plants and promised to pay shipping or even responded to your generosity after receiving the plant. This person doesn't seem to be on the forums much. Was going to say more, but I think I'll stop there and would prefer to give the benefit of the doubt.

I've run into a few bad apples over the years. When someone contacts me wanting something for nothing, I don't respond. I've had it happen on here with people who are not regular posters and on a few Lily Auction sales. But by and large daylily lovers are honest people. I hope this one will respond to you eventually.

Sorry to hear that. I buy trade and sell here and have never had a bad experience.
Like someone said above maybe on vacation......or got hit by a bus.....hopefully not the bus. Sometimes payment by mail takes a little longer than what we expect.
Always safe to use PayPal or the other electronic ways to pay.

Sorry that you had a bad experience, Deryll. The same thing happened to me several years ago. It was woman who contacted me via the Daylily Forum wanting a certain plant. She seemed legit, lived somewhere in Georgia (maybe) but I had never seen any previous posting from her. The deal was free plant, pay for the shipping. The plant was shipped and I never heard from her again. It was only $10, but I learned my lesson. It takes only one bad experience, even with a small of amount of money involved to make a person say never again. I will only deal with people who have been on the Daylily Forum for a long time, no unknowns.

I had a person contact me about a plant last year. I just sent it to them, it seemed like too much trouble to ask for the cost of shipping. Not that I would get in the habit of doing that!

I believe that if you are getting something for free, you should expect to pay for the shipping. Naturally I would operate differently with a long time regular on here if we are trading or working out some other deal without fear of being jilted. If Paypal is being used the fee should be covered or "friends and family".
