I had a iris bloom that was at the least only 3" tall including the flower, I didn't realize what I had, and the iris died, was this an accident, or do these miniature iris bulbs exist ? Thank you for your help.
Mary, are you sure it's dead and not just sleeping? The very tiny iris are spring-flowering bulbs. After they bloom the leaves gradually go brown and die, then the bulb rests underground until next year. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised to see it flower again next year!
I don't know a thing about Irises but there are many here who do so hopefully someone will come along shortly to help. I think there is such a thing as Dwarf Iris and I think some Irises have a short bloom period. Maybe your Iris is deciduous ... it may surprise you and return next season!

Hi maryG and
Did your iris look similar to any of these? Reticulata As June and Lin have said there are many Iris which have short blooms and which then go dormant for the rest of the year, reticulata being just one type. There are many very knowledgeable, enthusiastic Iris growers here. Check out the Irises forum and enjoy.
In case my tiny iris doesn't return, where could I purchase these very tiny iris bulbs. they are perfect for a terrarium , thanks for all of you for your help,
Mary .
Mary, a terrarium might be a bit too damp and humid for growing iris bulbs, but you could certainly grow them in pots or containers, giving them good drainage and air-circulation.
I am not good on bulbus irises, but I think so. they grow fine here & I think of them as an outdoor plant. I have always grown them that way. I don't force bulbs indoors.
