Wow! I've had a rough couple of months so I was out of pocket so to speak. Nice to play catch up on so many new posts! Love seeing all the new pictures and I'm jealous of the Black Fires! I started from seed a Black Fire from Rucky and it's doing well. No bloom as of yet but I'm sort of patient. Not really but what can you do?

Any way, after a very stressful month mid July-Aug I have treated myself to my adenium addiction with some new purchases.

This one was labeled "Yellow w/Red Tripe" but I'm thinking 'Stripe'. There was no yellow but I love this flower and the leaves so I'm cool with it.

Thanks. I'm a bit of an adenium purist meaning that I like single plants with their own blooms. However, I am seriously considering doing a double graft of my Rik Ni Ran and Black Purple.

That Black Purple is stunning!!!

The colors are close enough that they won't clash, like some. Good luck with the graft! Nice plants you have there--- if they all disappear, come look for them in my back room!

The first one I got at JRN II nursery on Alief/Clodine. The others came from Nature's Grower on Breen Drive.

Here are a few of mine that are in bloom. I've long ago forgotten the names of all except black Asia.

My main reason for posting today is to let folks in the Ft Lauderdale Miami area aware of a dealer I found who has acres and acres of adenium, the place is called Lucky Sumo Sanctuary at 2800 South Flamingo Road Davie Fl. The owners name is John and they have a great staff. John upon my request demonstrated how to pollinate an adenium and he says he has a 95% success rate, I think it took him all of 40 seconds to do it. he also demonstrated his grafting method which I intend to try. He also carry's great pots perfect for ademium and will shortly be carrying potting medium specially for adenium.

Great show Jim! Are you going to share the pollination secret with us?

My mind was spinning out of control while I was talking to him, I spent about an hour and a half, unfortunately he demonstrated his method when I first started talking to him, you have to understand that I'm about a year away from having to wear a name tag with my address on it I forgot everything he said and did on the way home. I just remember him ripping two petals of a bloom. pulling out two of those hairy things, shoving his exacto knife under a yellow blob and doing the same thing to another bloom and tapeing up the blossom with scotch tape. I tried hard to get him to log on and become a member here, and I intend to keep on him. If and when I learn his method I will gladly show you.

Jim I have done it that way, and I bet Melissa has too, only problem I found was that there is very little pollen so you have to be slow, and careful.

Doris, I have tried a similar way but not quite how he did it. One of my problems is that 85 to 90% of mine are in the ground! Difficult enough getting down there, but also dealing with the wind is a problem, not to mention shaky hands I'm now in the process of digging a few up and putting in pots. I can tell you that's a difficult job , but I'm finding a lot of surprises, a lot of what I've called bottle adenium (no caudex) simply have very nice caudexes buried under the earth.These were guys that I was going to throw out because they didn't impress me. I guess I'm the weirdest one on A.T.P., growing from seed putting in pots,then putting them in the ground, then back in pots!!! If Melissa is around and about here is a question for her. Have you ever spliced (i can't remember the right term) one .......... grafted thats the word have you ever grafted a plant that was in the ground? I don't think it's possible. Putting a bag over the graft the sun bakes it. What sayist thou ol what's her name

I can't believe that I only have 5 plants out of 132 but it sure is a lot less work BUT now I have one seed pod that is getting big, and can hardly believe that I have maybe 5 more on ONE plant,I think i will just cut those off.

As I think about it, Bob ( the owner of Lucky Sumo) had clear plastic bags covering all his plants that he grafted! I wonder where and how I could get clear plastic bags? Doris, so many plants are a lot of work are they not! I have way more then I want or need, but I just like messing with them, put in pots, then in ground then back in pots etc. I'm shocked to find that many the size that I have are worth quite a bit of money. Still, I just give them to neighbors who express an interest.
