Have suggestion on the My Lists feature. Can it be fixed to download not just my plant but also my photo?
Not meaning to degrade anyone's photo but I want a photo of my plant on my plant list.

Hi chickhill,

This is something @Dave would have to answer, as it's a feature request for the site.

You can find other info about feature requests and also post your own feature requests in the 'Site Talk' forum here... http://garden.org/forums/view/...

Since I tagged Dave's name up above, I'm sure he will come along to address this for you soon.

If you have added a photo to the plant in question (in the database) then it should use your photo in your list rather than the default thumbnail for the plant.

Nope...when I'm on the page that say's 'This is your list as others see it' the thumbnail shown for each plant is the top 'thumbed' picture for that plant.

So....something not working corretly.

Same here. I don't think my list photos have ever worked like that. I just always get the first photo showing in the DB.

Same here. I just checked on one where I knew I'd added a photo to the db.

It also works that way for me (the most thumbed photo is what my list uses), but I have no problem with that. I prefer to see the 'best' photo which is often much better than whatever I may have contributed. Also works as personal encouragement to submit only the very best photo I have of a particular plant, hoping it will be the princess photo. Or, if there are already plenty of beautiful photos of the plant bloom, perhaps take a different approach and submit one of the leaf or stalk. I think it helps grow the database, which we are all sharing and contributing to.

I'm with you Deb. Some of the plants in my list I've not added a photo for usually because they're too young or because the only pic I have is of a tuber.

My original plan was to design it so that if you have uploaded a photo to the plant, then your own photo takes precedence in your list. It sounds like I never got around to completing that part.

But if the consensus is that you'd rather it not be that way, we can leave it the way it is. Otherwise I'll update the feature to use your own photo.

I've shied away from making the site functionality differ like that because consistency has been important to me, and to site stability.

It really isn't that important to me one way or another. But I can see that it could be a bit disconcerting if the only photo you've uploaded is of seeds!

Confused Does any of this effect which picture is shown on the 'public' view of the plant? or does this only apply to what each person sees when they view their own list?

I'm happy with it the way it is. I consider the whole database to be a group effort and to pick and choose which photo to show up in my own personal list strikes me as a bit much. I have no clue how difficult such a change might be, and will defer to Dave on that. As Woofie notes, to have the system automatically default to a photo submitted by me would result in some weird pics. If there are quite enough beautiful bloom portraits, I don't usually add to the clutter, but rather focus on a different life stage - early emerging, front and back of a single leaf, or end of season mess. Useful photos, but not something I'd particularly want to showcase on my list.

I know we can make 'notes' when putting plants on our list...is it possible to put links in those notes? That way someone could link to their plants picture? I'm unsure, I've never tried, nor find the need, personally. But for those that may want to showcase their plant directly, it could be useful perhaps?

You should be able to do that, yes.
