Renewing a Favorite African Violet

If you have a favorite African Violet and it has grown too large, looks scruffy, or has a turkey neck (it has lost its lower leaves and the stem looks long and lanky), but you hate to throw it away because it has sentimental value, or because it's a favorite, you can renew it. Without the lengthy process of starting a new plant from leaves, you can have a rejuvenated blooming plant.

Is it critical to use seed starting soil? My AV broke off from the pot last night. I repotted in AV mix, then put on the plastic bag, and the under the fluorescent lights under the cabinets in my kitchen.
Thanks for your help
Any advice or suggestions is appreciated
Merry Christmas!

It doesn't have to be seed starting medium but needs to be soil with adequate drainage. Some of the African violet soil I've had experience with has been very heavy but perhaps yours is better quality. I would guess if you kept it warm, moist but not wet, under lights even with soil that is not perfect that it will still root up. No guaranty, but it's always worth a shot. Smiling
