We set out mosquito dunks in our birdbaths one year and lost all the butterflies so we went without the dunks last year and the butterflies came back in force.

Good info Bluesmaven! I haven't seen butterflies in the birdbaths but will make sure I don't put them there next year either. I will need to get better at dumping and refilling them because the skeeters will be there.

we also had them in the ducks kiddie pool. I saw butterflies on the edge of the bird bath or on the rabbit in the middle never thought about the dunks hurting the butterfly population though. It was a sad lesson to learn.

We've been using the Water Wiggler in our birdbath for years.

Next time we replace ours, I'm thinking about getting the
Babbling Brook Water Wiggler.

Marilyn....how often you you have to change batteries? Sure would be nice if they came up with a solar powered one.

Hi Sheila,

So very sorry I didn't respond til now! *Blush*

I'm pretty sure we can go a whole season (or close to a whole season) with two fresh D batteries at the start of the season. Make sure they aren't the rechargable batteries with the water wiggler I was talking about.
