Janet thought that the pupa looked more like something that would parasatize a caterpillar. I kept it to see what would come out and today it did. I had to take photos through the container because I don't want that flying in my house and I'm not letting it go until I know what it is. So please do your best with my pictures.

Oh cool Melanie. I've seen those many times. Once in a while they get in the house too. I always call them mayflies even though I realize they are NOT mayflies but I don't know what else to call them. I'll be very curious to know what they really are.

It's a wasp! Wasps are also famous for parasitizing caterpillars.

Ichneumonidae, subfamily Ophioninae. There will me many similar, it would be difficult to say which it is unless you have a specimen or several photos showing close detail of parts.

I wouldn't have recognized your bug as a wasp but it sure is!! Looks like Janet has it right with Enicospilus sp. (of course ) from the bugguide images and the descriptions.

Thanks guys! I guess I assumed it must be wasp since it's either that or flies that parasatize caterpillars. I've just never seen this particular wasp come out of a pupa before. It did kind of remind of those Thread-Waisted Wasps I've seen as far as body shape, but I just wasn't sure. As always, I can count on the Bug ID forum for answers!

I get these coming to the outside light, some are quite big. The wing venation and shape of abdomen, often the head features as well are the usual clues to which species they are.

I do get things with the long legs like that at my lights, too. I'm generally busy trying to flee them but I'll try and take a look every now and then. Maybe I'll learn something!

I had these last Summer. I thought they were mayflies too. They bite! (and they hurt!) Nice to finally know. Ugh!
