Daylily (Hemerocallis 'All American Chief')

AAC is one of the best i have ever owned.It always puts on a show here in zone 6. It is just as it is registered, i have not had any luck with it as a parent.

All American Chief was one of my first tets. I absolutely love it and have it growing both in England and in the South of France. It performs brilliantly in both locations and doesn't mind its position in full sun and sandy soil in the hot Mediterranean environment. In France it's visible from the road and several locals have introduced themselves in order to ask about it -- so it's also a great social facilitator!

Love this Daylily. It keeps getting better and bigger. It bloomed most of the summer.

A favorite of mine and all my visitors. It is showy,multiplies well. I have not seen it rebellion. Have had it about 10 years.

I had to go to an Ontario grower to get this plant but, since almost every district has it in their top 5, I had to try it. I planted this last spring and this was my summer bloom from it. I am expecting great things from this one but I won't be able to really evaluate until next year. I am happy with the first year's growth for sure.,

2 years later, I am not particularly impressed with this CV. It is in full sun, a protected area but has reached only 27", not the 32" registered. Color and size is consistent but bud count is only 8 on two way branching. I am not sure this is a keeper for me

I may have to seriously consider adding this one to my list....

I added two fans of 'All American Chief' back on April 27th 2016. This year it bloomed on 05-02-17 for the first time.
It is now 9 fans, I pulled three dead scapes this morning and they averaged only 5 buds per scape. It is the only plant I have checked so far that only had one single terminal branch. Hopefully that will change next year. With all the awards it has won I was expecting a lot more from it. No blooms left on it this morning, so the photo of the bloom is from earlier in the year.The scapes averaged 25 inches tall.

This photo was taken this morning to show how the entire plant looks. You can see it has a scape getting ready to rebloom.Another scape in the photo looks like the buds aborted.

AAC is a standout here with it's large, dramatic bloom. Holds its color well in the heat. I have it in light shade but it doesn't seem to mind. Has never set a pod (its infertility is my biggest complaint with this plant). Increase is slow but steady. Thrip damage doesn't effect the bloom terribly much. A keeper as a garden plant.

It's now on my shopping list for this year. Gorgeous!

I ordered 2 the first year and both bloomed well. Neither plant was in full sun. My front yard is very deep, and AA Chief shows up even from the street. It even rebloomed. Think I would rather have AAC even with fewer blossoms than another cultivar that kind of dies visually. I'm outside Atlanta.

This hasn't done amazingly for me. It's in a tough spot, a lot of shade. Last year, 2021, was the first year in my garden, AAC bloomed from July 5 to July 12, with 3 flowers on 2 fans
This year, 2022, started with 3 fans but was down to 2 by October. The plant bloomed from June 27-July 10, with 12 blooms.
There was no rust on it

Big growth year for All American Chief this season. It put on a fan over the winter, starting April with 3 fans. By October, the plant had six!

AAC only flowered 15 blooms this summer, from June 29-July 17, definitely EM. Many plants were affected by the drought of 2022. But this is a plant that took advantage of the rains of 2023. I'm guessing that next year will be a good show.
