Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Moses' Fire')

One of the sturdiest Daylilies I have. It blooms like crazy, doesn't mind partial shade, and is a fast increaser even in drought.

A trait that I am looking for more of is sturdy scapes, and Moses' Fire definitely has them! Only had it two years and since I got it from a friend, I am unsure about how much it has increased. It blooms from mid-June to mid-July in my zone 6b garden.

It does throw some singles. Got Moses' Fire in 2013 from a friend and at first thought she had given me the wrong daylily. But the singles are pretty too!


I like the blooms above the foliage and it certainly does that. Maybe my judgement is off, but this looks taller than the registered height of 22".


Branching is a nice 3-way and bud count is around 20.


I keep saying I am not into doubles, but there are some that I do like because of all the other qualities mentioned above. Moses' Fire is a great addition to the landscape.

My report will probably sound like a recurring theme or the needle skipping on vinyl...

It is unfortunate that a lot of my CVs including Moses Fire were being choked or starved by the neighboring fence line azalea's and other shrubs last year. So, no real report to share. I will however say this, since I have moved into a new home and have a blank slate to work with I am hopeful for the future.

That said, as with all of my CVs I have potted them up in a supped up growing medium with lots of organic materials, a little extra natural fertilizer in the form of compost and pine fines. Most have started a wonderful recovery. But of course the below photo shows some yellowing of the foliage but it is winter here in NW FL and frost has stunted some of these back.

I got this last year, so it's too soon to tell how it does after this long cold winter. I have heard good things about it up here though, so I am looking forward to seeing how it does

This is a good grower in my garden. It grows a little taller than the registered height and the color is a stand out for me. It is not a floppy double and I like that about this one.

I haven't had Moses' Fire for very long. I bought it in 2020. So far it has been a reliable bloomer. It's too early for me to say much about how it compares to the registration. I can say that I haven't seen it throw a single flower yet. Hopefully I'll have an update in a year or two once the plant has settled in.
