I love the contrast on this one of the cream flowers and the blackish calyces. In the cooler months, the flowers develop an apricot blush which I also adore. It's a tough plant that has survived winter temps as low as 5 F & summer temps in the high 90's in full sun all while planted in a container that is sitting on the driveway. Lovey dubby

@Danita

Good to know! Thanks for sharing your experience of growing it!

I've that one coming this spring and am looking forward to growing it.

There are so many salvias and so little space to grow them all. Sighing!

The good thing about a lot of them not being hardy for me, is that I can grow different and new ones the following years, if that makes any sense.

I know, not enough space, energy and $ for all these fabulous Salvias. I did luck out on this one and found it on Lowe's clearance for about $1.75 one year along with a couple of others from the series. I got one of each but it was difficult not to scoop them all up to take home!

Wow! Good deal! Hurray!

A few years ago when I was at our local Lowe's, I spied one-gallon pots of Heatwave Blaze, so I scooped up 5 or 6 of them. Planted them into the ground, but they didn't survive the following year.

Our Lowe's doesn't usually carry "special" salvias or plants here in northern KY. Sighing!

Ours rarely does, either. We probably got ours the same year. Hilarious! It's mostly a never-ending stream of nemorosa types which really aren't at their best here.

I picked up a couple of these plants some years ago, to go into my Moon Garden - which has clay soil. One of them died the first winter, because it was in a bit of a depression and didn't get good enough drainage.

The other one is still with me, and it is a great plant. The color contrast between the white flowers and the "blackish caylce" (as Danita put it I tip my hat to you. ) is striking and really jazzes up the plant. I have another white flowered salvia in the Moon Garden, 'Navajo Jewel', and the stems and blooms on that look boring and insipid when matched up against those of 'Heatwave Glimmer'. I think that the foliage is maybe better and/or more attractive on 'Heatwave Glimmer' too... all around it is a much more eye-catching (in a pleasing and desirable way) salvia than the 'Navajo Jewel' is.

As for vigor, the surviving plant apparently is dry enough, or gets enough drainage, that it grows great, even though it is still in clay soil with spray irrigation. I cut it back to about a foot or so every January, and by mid summer it is starting to grow out of bounds and spill over the pathway and needs to be trimmed back.

Thumbs up for this garden jewel! Thumbs up Just be sure to give it good winter drainage. Whistling
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

I have a 'Heatwave Glimmer' shipping this spring. It will be the first time growing this variety. Looking forward to the flowers.

I missed my chance to pick up one of these four years ago. I hope it shows up locally again at some point.
