Anyone ever use left over fruit juice in their compost as moisture?

Never thought of that. It would provide sugar for beneficials, right? Not sure if I would add if it contained artificial sweeteners though. Would it attract yellow jackets and other stingers if done during the summer?

I did a dumb thing. I went shopping and accidentally left a bag of juice in the car for a couple of days when it was really hot. The bottles were warm and when I opened them it smelled like rotten fruit.

I hate to just pour it down the drain. It is grape juice, orange, juice and Strawberry/banana. That expensive stuff that they claim is fresh squeezed all juice no sugar added. It was in the refrigeration area is probably why it went bad in the heat of the car.

Aw - don't you hate an expensive oversight? Done similar things myself. I would throw it on the compost pile but spread it out - don't concentrate in one area.

The only thing I think might be even slightly bad would be if the juice is very acid. Even then ... the acidity will even out and things will digest those organic acids in a few days.

I know they add molasses to compost when they want a "sugar rush".

But there's only a moderate amount of sugar in PURE fruit juice.

Cinta, I imagine it would be good for the compost pile if it's large and/or already heavy in carbon. If your pile is small and already full of nitrogen-rich materials, then the juice might make it stinky.

Thank you all. I poured it in. I did not care if it smelled because my compost bins are at the back of the property close to the woods so it is very far away from the house.

I will report back this summer and let you all know my experience.
