Yes. But, unless something has changed, it has to be done on a category-by-category basis. I always have to go back and look again to see how it's done. Hilarious!
Here's a brief article: http://garden.org/ideas/view/w...

Edited to add: This was written back when there were still tabs at the top of the page.

I think you can still make it public or private but now I can't figure out how it worked. If you go to your profile and click on where it says There are 647 Plants in FrillyLily's plant list, somewhere on the left side of the page it should say View and Manage Your List; click there and then there should be an area that says Manage your Categories and at the bottom of that page there should be an option to make public or private. My eyes are giving me trouble today so I'm having trouble finding it again on my own profile but I know I found it earlier. Green Grin!

Lin, you have to have set up categories and make them private on a case by case basis. I believe Frillylily mentioned (over in a thread under the article I linked) that she doesn't have any categories set up?

Right. And those are not actual categories, only an indication of the status of the entries.

To make your entries private you will have to go through each one and use the edit button to change it to private.

But first it has to be moved into a personal category that has the option of being made private.

Thanks Woofie, I didn't even realize that it had to be in category format. I did begin setting up categories in my list awhile back ... and then I got sidetracked. Green Grin!

I recently add a few categories...went to try this out. It needs a screen shot by shot tutorial. It isn't a very straightforward process. One tutorial to create categories and one to privatize the individual categories. The want list should, I think, also have the ability to be privatized. I would really like one of everything please. Ok then I no longer need that last category privatized. HaHa. The link to woofie's directions worked for me although my categories are way down on the left side in the blue? I recently read that page customization is in the works to include the ability to reorder that list on the left. For instance you'd then be able to bring your categories to the top. Down the road for sure but it'll happen. I tip my hat to you.

You could easily make a category for something like "Private Listing," and set it to private and visible only to yourself -- but the biggest problem is that, as far as I can tell, if you already have quite a few plants in your list you would have to go to each plant to edit it and add it to the category. It would be really nice if you could somehow add multiple plants to a new category all at one time...

That wont work will it? Aren't all the plants in your categories already in your main list? I missing something here but just can't see it. Shrug! I just checked on this. Your not moving anything out of the main list your just sub categorizing it. Your main list is permanent and sub catagorized into have, used to have, and want all of which cannot be privatized as far as I can tell. I always look at Sherry's @BoneHead because it's very sub catagoried. I wondered too if you can put the same plant in two or more sub catagories?

Actually, I *think* that if you move a plant into a category that is marked private, it won't show on your list, as long as it's ONLY in that category.

What about unnamed/unregistered "seedlings" of daylilies? Can I make a list of my own seedlings without needing a plant file from the Plant Database as a reference? I also want it to be private. Can this be done and if so, how? And can photo(s) be added to such a private seedling category ? Maybe this was covered somewhere else? (If so, would appreciate someone sending me the thread link.)

The topic adding NOIDs to our plant list and uploading our own photos has been discussed several times. I think Dave said he was open adding this feature, but it has apparently not been high on the priority list.

About the only way I can think of to do that right now would be either in a blog, or by adding photos and notes to the comment section for a generic daylily entry in your list.

This was discussed in some detail last year, but it doesn't look like it's happened yet.

Yes, it does work (I just checked, by putting the first plant in my listing under a "private" category, then logging out and looking at my plant list).

True, all the plants in your list are in your main list, but if you put a plant in a "private" category, only you will be able to see it. And, yes, you can put the same plant in two or more sub categories. for instance, I have a lot of plants in a category called "vegetables," then "pole bean," then "seeds, saved." And, if I put one in the category "private listing," then only I can see it.

I guess I just don't know why I would want to do that Shrug!
