Malaysian Monarch is my favorite Munson purple, and I've grown it for at least 20 years. It's a strong grower yet a moderate increaser, with nicely branched scapes. What makes it stand out is the fact that it's very well-mannered, with flat, wide-open segments which open consistently well even when the weather is uneven.

The substance is not exceptionally thick and heavy, but for some reason, Malaysian Monarch is more sunfast than most other flowers in its class. It has never shown much rust either.

I've shared many divisions of this one.

MM has grown here for many years in my zone 4 garden. I love the watermark on this beautiful daylily it always looks good here. I just noticed that I never posted a picture in the database, guess I would look and if there were a number of photos I would not post mine.

I have had Malaysian Monarch for four years now. It isn't planted in an ideal location, and does get shade during the day, but it always blooms nicely. I planted it next to Techny Peace and the lovely pale yellow of Techny Peace looks very nice with the watermark and yellow throat of Malaysian Monarch. I planted this combination next to Monarda 'Raspberry Wine', and I find the grouping very pleasing. The clump has expanded well, and has proved hardy in my northern garden.

All in all, it is one that I like very much.

Malaysian Monarch was one of the first daylilies that I purchased three years ago from an ebay vendor. I loved the color and the watermark. It is planted under a pine tree and the native soil is dry. MM has multiplied from two fans to about eight in the three years that I've had it. Seems like it's rust prone but I like it and will keep it..

(Ditto to all Ken said!)

It's my favorite of all purples and we've had it for at least 20 years, like Ken. It performs well in shade and semi-shade but tends to appear light violet in full sun.

No problems at all with rust! It is an excellent parent plant, both ways.

Malaysian Monarch is a strong performer and always admired by guests.

I purchased a variety of daylilies this past fall from a northern grower and they just arrived last month. The plants were small with small roots but knowing from past experience that the Munsons are really hardy daylilies, I planted them with no reservations and I am glad to report that Malayan Monarch has doubled in size since it was planted and I suspect it won't slow down. I'm very pleased with its vigor.

Malaysian Monarch is one of my favorite Munson daylilies! I just love its color and the watermark. Speaking of color, it seems to hold its color well in the sun. It increases at an average rate for me in my zone 6 garden. I know daylilies don't have emotions, but to me, it just seems like a "happy" daylily.

MM is also one of my favorite Munson intros that I still grow. The contrast of the flower petal and the watermark make it standout. It is an extremely consistent performer. It has never had a bad day in the 20 years of growing it. For a plant to stay in my garden for 20 years must say something about the plant. I don't have it in an ideal spot, so it's increase is not tremendous, but it just keeps on blooming.

I don't regret any Munson daylily that I've bought. They are superb plants.

Great garden plant with that classic Munson watermark.
I have recommended this plant to several "non-daylily" people as a great pop of color in their gardens.
Grows well, blooms well - a keeper.
