I have 2 Satsuma trees that I have grown from seeds.they both have very large thorns. Is this normal. They have never had blooms on them or have bared any fruit. Any suggestions would be helpful

Hi Danny,

Thorns are a seedling thing. About the time the thorns go away, the trees will bloom. That will happen any time from age 3 to about 20 years but usually around 7 or 8 years. New branches without thorns will be the advance warning that your tree has finally reached maturity.

As a rule, Satsumas are a popular choice for gardens because they are pretty much thorn free, with only the occasional one showing up.

Do you know what satsuma variety seeds you planted? Most satsumas will only have fewer than 6 seeds as they are considered seedless. Many will not come true from seed.
