Thread OP

Anyone know what kind of Viburnum this is? Has black berries and is orange in fall.

Taken on nov 8th (zone 5a):

Yeah, darn - not a Viburnum.

That's an Aronia melanocarpa - Black Chokeberry.

Always look at leaves (or buds in dormant season) for orientation along the stem. This will steer you into the right category of plants to explore for identification (opposite versus alternate), AND it will sharpen your habit of observation and perception.

Viburnum as a genus will have opposite arrangement of simple leaves along its stems. This Aronia will have alternate arrangement of simple leaves.

Great! Thanks for the help. No wonder I was unable to find a viburnum with black berries. Black Chockberry it is Smiling
