Always look at leaves (or buds in dormant season) for orientation along the stem. This will steer you into the right category of plants to explore for identification (opposite versus alternate), AND it will sharpen your habit of observation and perception.

Viburnum as a genus will have opposite arrangement of simple leaves along its stems. This Aronia will have alternate arrangement of simple leaves.
