I posted this rose in the Rose forum but thought it would be good here too.

I picked up a Lowes markdown to 5.00 rose Happy Chappy.


When I started researching it I found they were advertising it in a hanging basket. The few flowers that are blooming are very fragrant and the way it is sticking out all over it would make a good hanging basket plant.

I use odd plants in hanging baskets. I used a tropical Hibiscus and petunias one year and it was a great hanging pot.

Awesome! Those look great! The old-school "sweetheart" rose could be one to try also. Those don't get very tall and have a leaning habit.

I get weird impulses and put about any plant in a hanging basket, including Coleus & ponytail palm.

My newest one was made a few weeks ago from various cuttings to hang where the sun shines all morning.

What a colorful rose that is Cinta. Great way to display it's beauty and lovely scent.

Yes Lynn I am going to hang it on the porch of the house I am going to put up for sale so I can have my greenhouse built. Hope it helps.

I am going to put some petunias around the edges so there is blooms and fragrance. Fingers crossed it helps me sell.

I have ginger (common ginger, Zingiber officinale) in a hanging planter. That's pretty unusual. I should try to get some pictures of that now, especially since one of them is blooming. Next year at this time, I'll probably have some turmeric in a hanging planter as well.

I make hanging planters. So I have a lot more hanging pots and plants than many. I call my creations "rope art" though some look at my stuff and say "macramé". Technically, macramé is decorative knots, which are present in "rope art," but I also include hand braided sections and other artistic features not found in most "macramé" pieces.

Well, after searching for a few days for the hanging, lit ginger planter, I relented and ask "she who keeps track of things I lose." She reminded me that when we helped one of her friends move a few weeks ago, I offered her friend and her friend's husband to take one of my creations as a house warming gift, and the husband chose the ginger planter.

So I'll have to make another one (or two) of those for next year.

As a consolation, here are some pictures of my latest creation.


This piece is made for a 12 inch plastic planter pot. The one shown is the "Newberry" 12 inch pot from Home Depot. It's also a perfect fit for the "Suncast" 12 inch planter pot from Walmart. I've used the 12 inch planter pots like this successfully to grow parsley, cilantro, sage, (all outdoors), as well as sweet peppers (both outdoors and indoors), and it can support a single smaller (determinate) tomato plant, although this planter lacks any net or trellis to support a tomato vine.

I believe (I haven't tried this one), it will also fit very well with a 10 inch clay terra cotta pot on a saucer. Most of my creations will fit the next size downt on a terra cotta clay pot on a saucer (with rocks or marbles between the saucer and the pot for improved drainage).

This piece has a built in light fixture for a PAR-38 (4-3/4") "spot light". The distance from the light to the top edge of the pot is about 22 inches. A 25-30 degree beam angle "spot" lamp is best for this piece. It's shown with a 30 degree beam blue/white "aquarium" light. I'm hoping that light will be more successful with leafy herbs. I'm trying sage, cilantro and parsley in this pot. I just planted the seeds yesterday.

I have put Episcia 'silver skies' in a pot a long time ago. I don't have a pic, but it ended up being a very full trailing basket. This would work best if you live in a humid area as it does like humidity.
