A wonderful June came to an end and here we are on July 1. and with that we need a new thread!

My cage is right now strongly Vanilla scented, the blooms on my Dendrobium bensoniae smell heavenly. This is one of those Dendrobiums one is told not to water it much during the Winter. This plant hangs right under my glass ceiling in the greenhouse during the indoor season here and starts growing new canes for the next Summer's blooming. This one blooms on the old canes. I don't listen to that advice and I water it daily!

And there is still the Vandachostylis Viboon Velvet going strong next to it, this plant is really worth growing.

And there is the very cute Bulbophyllum roxburghii blooming right on schedule.

It's so amazing to me how many different flower forms there on in the Bulbo. family...I'm surprised the Boffins haven't subdivided the group and given everyone a new name to remember.
Those Dens are a spectacle when they go from bare sticks to full bloom...just gorgeous!
Tara, is your Phal. blooming on a secondary spike or did it just send out a random spike recently? Mine always bloomed around December after a little chill in the fall. How wonderful that you still have the plant that started all the fun of growing these rewarding plants!
I put up a picture yesterday of a NOID that just bloomed for me..I also sent an email to Kawamoto..as that was likely where it came from. They almost instantly responded that it was Slc. Jewelers Art 'Waiomao Plum' HCC/AOS. When I looked back through the depths of my vintage computer I found the original journal entry with the details that I bought it in bloom and the date.

I'm comfortable with the ID...but do want to let this one bloom again to see if the next set of blooms looks more normal... and in the meantime will quarantine this plant with another that is in question.

The spike on my Phal is a secondary. Yes all of mine normally start up in the winter/spring, after a bit of a chill, and spending the winter inside. I'm surprised that this one has continued as it has been moved out to my deck, in our hot, hot and humid weather. I really wasn't expecting much from it until the weather started to cool again. Surprise! I'll take it!

Lindsey, I would think quarantine sounds reasonable for this plant. I would do the same.

No ID mystery 4.00 oncidium. Still has more blooms to come!

They are always "cheerful", and they last a really long time! Love this one, and mine is spiking right now! Hoping to see blooms soon!

NONE of my oncidium are spiking...to my dismay!

I think I only have a single Oncidium left, and its the flexuosum. I need to go out and check it for a stem.

Glen, I don't know about a wonderland, but I am a happy camper here!
This is the cage I am talking about. I move all my Orchids into this 30 foot long Summer camp, and in the meanwhile I am in the process of scrubbing out the Greenhouse. This cage had a former life as a tool bin in the cellar of a pharmaceutical plant nearby, that building closed up shop around 2004.

I was just in the cage to check if there was any damage after the strong thunderstorm which moved through here a while ago and I heard an animal sort of loud screaming at me.
I jumped, closed the cage door and looked around. It was a huge Raccoon, followed by a baby. She was probably yelling at me not to touch her baby. Both went up the slope behind the cage and disappeared. But that was one impressive animal there!!
And that is why I am fortunate to have this cage, my backyard is a zoo!

Yowza, Ursula be very careful going forward that you don't run into mama raccoon again - they can be vicious if they're protecting young ones. It's probably a good thing that you alarmed her while you were inside the cage. Maybe she will take her little one elsewhere.

You do have an amazing array of beautiful plants, though. I guess all of us on this Orchids forum are collectors of some type or another. My husband tells people we have a private botanical jungle at our house. What can I say, I just want to grow one of every plant . . . well, except the stinky and sharp pokey ones.

Talk about a zoo, too - I am currently sharing my mango crop with an extremely persistent opossum, a small one with a white tail. I don't mind too much, as at least she eats the entire fruit, doesn't eat a few bites then let the whole thing rot on the ground like the squirrels do. No sign of any raccoons lately here, much to my relief. I usually have them as soon as the mangoes are getting ready.

Wow, Ursula! That's the best picture I've seen of your cage. Usually we just see parts of it. It's wider than my whole lot!

Forgot to post my new bloomer for today, noid Den from Trader Joe's and it has two spikes, flowers are a very deep dusky purple! As usual the camera adds some red here. Sure hope it's still in bloom when I get home from Salt Lake City. DH will be staying here to defend the home front, so I guess he can send me pictures.
