A vigorous plant. Can be slow to open in the morning. A bit of a space hog, given its vigor. I believe too that it blooms just above the foliage. This pic was taken with an old camera. Just saw it today in the hospital garden and it looked good.

I find it very slow to open often taking two days and not opening completely. It is also a very difficult pod parent here.

Very vigorous plant here too. This year when many daylilies are shorter than usual, Smugglers Gold was taller than usual. Perhaps because it is at the back of the bed, backed up by a fence, & having to reach for sunlight.

Smuggler's Gold has the sultie color that seam to change on each time it blooms. A dependable plant and true to the AHS description.

I just added this one. I do know that it is a rapid grower and you can see if from the road in a drift!!

I am looking forward to having a big clump in a yr or two.

Smugglers Gold is indeed a beautiful Daylily but I agree it is a slow grower for me
As well in my garden. It does prove to be pollen fertile for me but difficult to set a pod on. I have had this one for 6-7 years now.

Just added Smugglers Gold to my garden last year so I can't give an in depth report but looks like it could be a hardy and dependable Daylily based on its increase from its initial planting. Just gave me its first bloom today.

Added Smuggler's Gold in 2017 and it bloomed the first summer. Short foliage and scapes, small bud count, but pretty, subtle flower colors. Didn't try to set pods and didn't use its pollen this year, but I will try it next year.

I received this plant, mistakenly labeled as Big Smile by Johnny Appleseed on the LA. Luckily, Smuggler's Gold is very distinctive, so I could correctly identify it. I ended up moving it from the Patio Bed ( desirable location) to the back of Upper Daylily Hill ( an undesirable location). SG didn't miss a beat. Since the Fall of 2020, it has increased from 2 to 10 fans. This summer saw a nice bloom period from July 2-24, making this a solid M in my yard. There were over 40 blooms in those 3 weeks. It's a very showy, large yellow bloom whose rosy overlay changes from day to day. I like the ruffled round form.

2023 update…SG bloomed from July 2-28 with at least 38 blooms, so very similar to last year. It seems to have lost a few fans to end the season at 7 ( down from 10).
