Let's just say...Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, SC is my second home. It's so beautiful there and so yet again another photo from there. And another one my mother gave me the name for. I've discovered she's not always right!! Crying Big Grin

Gorgeous Caladiums!
Fancy-Leafed Caladium (Caladium bicolor)

Elephant ear is used for them, as well as other common names.

Lovely Caladiums, looks a lot like Fancy-leaf Caladium (Caladium 'Florida Cardinal')

A bit confused...and I guess that's why I came here to begin with. When I Google Fancy-leaf Caladium it gives me all different kinda photos of caladiums, and the same with the Angel Wings. How do I narrow it done to the exact kind?

Then when I search a little harder, it looks like it could be a "Florida Sweetheart" in the Fancy-leaf, but the Angel Wings shows an all white and green caladium. So stumped right now!!

OOPS, my mistake, after looking them over it looks more like a John Peed then a Florida Sweetheart. Hmmm.

It still looks most like Fancy-leaf Caladium (Caladium 'Florida Cardinal') to me. Lance-leaf Caladium (Caladium 'Florida Sweetheart') is pinker in color with a thinner green margin.

I've never seen Fancy-leaf Caladium (Caladium 'John Peed') but from viewing on-line photos, it appears to be a browner-red whereas Florida Cardinal is bright red.

I get confused with leaf descriptions of Fancy Leaf, Angel Wing, etc.

Any Caladiums hardy in zone 7b? I'm not a fan of lifting plants in fall but I am a fan of Caladiums.

As far as I know, Caladiums (Caladium) will only survive winter in-ground in zones 9 and higher; I used to be in Florida zone 9a and if we had warm winters without extended cold they would come back each year but if we had numerous frosts or a freeze they would not return. Caladiums can be planted in containers and hanging baskets and brought in during the winter months ... and many northerners grow them as annuals.

Thanks for the info Lin I tend to shy away from annuals too. I want to plant something and continuously enjoy it for years to come. Living on a budget you always try to get the most bang for your buck if you know what I mean. I already have about 500 fig trees in pots and about another 500-700 other plants in pots so the last thing I need is more potted plants to tend too Hilarious! Thanks again for your help and Dawne your Caladium looks amazing! Lovey dubby

Here's a good caladium dealer. You'll how many different kinds there are. I really don't think for your purposes that you need to even try a cultivar ID. Just call them red Caladiums. Or clearly say, 'similar to Florida Cardinal but no guarantee on cultivar ID' or just "possibly Florida Cardinal"
They are 110% Caladium and that should satisfy 98% of your visitors.
Plant it and they will come.
