Hi! I have a BoP that is about 6 years old. I lived in Baltimore MD (zone 7a) for 3 years and the plant did well. I take it inside for the winter. No flowers but the leaves seemed to be growing normally. Earlier this year, I moved to Lincoln NE (zone 5a). The leaves were pretty shredded when I took the plant out of the UHaul but the plant didn't seem to be negatively impacted by the move. I put the plant out in early spring. Now, new leaves come out but initially the stem was only a couple of inches long before uncurling. Now the fourth leaf this year is already uncurling before completely leaving the sheath (or whatever it is called). There is no stem. I have not fertilized before and gave a slow release fertilizer about a month ago. It is watered as needed. The soil doesn't dry out and the plant is root bound but I read that it prefers this and will promote flowering. Does anyone have an idea of why this is happening or what to do? Hi Dawn, welcome to the site. These big BOP's should be getting larger and larger leaves. In my garden here, they are in the ground, and get to be 20ft. tall even competing with the roots of oak trees. The largest leaves can be 8ft. long not including the stems.

I'm sure you need to pot that plant up into a much bigger pot, and fertilize it some at the beginning of its growing season each year - that would be just when you're ready to put it outdoors for the summer. Don't be afraid to water it, they can take any amount of water as long as the drainage is good.

That being said, white BOP's really aren't good container plants unless you have a 2 story conservatory, or a shopping mall. They get huge.

Hi, Sorry but i do not know much about BOP plants, Just had a sea change a few months ago to Surfer's Paradise Qld Australia! , and on this plot i purchased i inherited 2 lots of BOP plants each lot has about 30 stems/leafs growing to about 5 feet high, when we first arrived they both looked in good health and flowering, but now that we are heading towards the summer season next month my BOP'S are no longer flowering and some of the leaves are looking unwell , with curls and a little brown the color of rust ! Will you please advise me of what is needed ? many thanks , Regards Charlie
