Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Kindly Light')

For 12 years I've enjoyed the playful look of Kindly Light in my gardens. It always looks fresh and flirty, in it's spidery way. About 9 or 10 years ago, I was on a Garden Tour and spotted Kindly Light positioned near a waterfall in a garden on the Tour. I asked the gardener if she knew the name of this particular variety of Daylily, and she said, 'Oh yes, that is one of my favourites, Kindly Light'. We both agreed that it had a simple, clean cut, floating elegance that made us both appreciate it. We understood each other and became Daylily friends that very day - thanks to Kindly Light.

Spidery types are not my favorite form for daylilies, but I do appreciate them more now than in the past. I do grow KL and have had it for about a dozen years. My 13 year old daughter won't let me get rid of it as she loves it (My son won't let me get rid of Spiderman). She refers to KL at "Banana Peels." It does very well in my Zone 5 garden and blooms consistently. My daughter, who has very little interest in my hobby, has hybridized with it and the seedlings are below. I have come to appreciate its simple elegance.

I have enjoyed Kindly Light in my garden for almost five years, always a reliable bloomer and looks so cheerful in the garden, I will always have a place for it, love the spidery look.

I have grown Kindly Light for twenty years. It was one of my first purchases. It is a reliable bloomer and adds interest to the border with its "spidery" form. It is a moderate increaser. I got a kick out of the post by @bedmaker because my daughter calls Kindly Light "The Banana" and now the entire family has adopted that name. My Kindly light is much more spider in form than the photos posted by @bedmaker.
