I met this beautiful tall shrub in a front yard, during my trip in the UK..
Anyone has an idea, I would like to enter it in the database..

What was its bloom time (season), now, or?

I've seen this plant somewhere, now to locate it again...

Does it smell good?

My first thought was an Itea (sweetspire) but I have never seen it in pink and blooms are normally held more erect.
Then I thought Clethra (summersweet / sweet pepperbush) it does come in pink. I have not grown this bush so this is just a thought ( guess)

The one that I was thinking of was vitex, but its bloom spikes seem to be erect, not pendulous.

Haven't been able to find a bottle brush type tree that matches either.

It was in full bloom in July, Chelle. Not a vitex for sure..

It seems familiar to me too but.......
and I thought it looked like it would smell sweet too & does also remind me of a bottlebrush but the leaves don't fit....

Im almost sure by the glossy leave that it must be a Hebe spiecie
Think that it looks very like a Hebe macrocarpa but thats a tender one in the UK, NL, and Belgie. A hebe that is hardy to –5°C can grow to a big size more than 6.5ft (2 m) The one in your picture is probably closely related to Hebe macrocarpa.

I agree, it sure looks like a variety of Hebe although I don't know which one. I think some are quite small while some grow to 8' or more in height. There are a couple listed in the database: http://garden.org/plants/brows...

I think it might be safe to say the shrub is Hebe 'Midsummer Beauty'

I hadn't looked at the hight they mention for the shrub, only 5 ft (1,5m) the shrub was definitely taller, I think around 2,5m!..

Some Hebe like H. salicifolia grow to 8 feet tall while others are quite small. The one in your photo sure looks big and it sure is beautiful so I hope you can find an exact identity.

Myriam, as you know the height may not reflect what everyone experiences. Or maybe the data is off a bit. I have so many times had plants get far larger than what data says it will. So much depends on the exact location; even to the exact location within a specific yard as well as the soil in that particular spot & how the gardener treats it etc.... I know you must have experienced the same at some point. Or had plants not get as large as data says. And then there are microclimates within yards.

I'd love to have one like the beautiful specimen in Myriam's photo! I wonder if Hebe would do well in this part of Florida?
