I have asked a couple of garden centers in my area what this is, but they are not sure. I have been told possibly a type of coleus.

Have you compared to Heuchera, two varieties to check are Red and Purple Palace.

I'm having difficulty seeing it clearly but it does look like it might be a variety of Coleus. Is it possible to post a close up of the leaves? We have many Coleus photos for comparison here in our database: http://garden.org/plants/brows...

If not Coleus, perhaps Bloodleaf (Iresine diffusa f. herbstii)

I just took a look, and it is very similar with the top of the plant, but the leaves dont look quite the same. Thank you...

Looks like a coleus to me! The blooms should have been pinched off to keep it fuller.

I'd say it's a Coleus, the flowers are a giveaway.

Coleus leaves are kinda dull and soft where leaves of the Beefsteak Plant are shiny and smooth so it probably is a variety of Coleus (Coleus scutellarioides) My eyes are not good but it appears as though it's been left to grow tall and lanky instead of pinching back for a fuller plant.
