Is it an herb? It smells nice

It might be parsley... But... there's a lot of plants that look like each other, including poison hemlock...
Suggest not trying to eat this until you get an absolutely positive id.
Maybe look for caterpillars, the black swallowtail butterfly uses parsley and carrots and zizia as host plants for her children...
But the presence of caterpillars does not mean the plant is safe...
next time, please photograph the entire plant...

It does resemble http://garden.org/plants/searc... but as stone mentioned, best not to taste any plant until you know for sure that it isn't something toxic.

It could be Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota) or it could be Poison Hemlock (Conium maculatum). They look a lot alike so no tasting. In fact, some people have poisoned themselves just pulling Hemlock up with bare hands. Queen Anne's Lace does smell pleasantly of carrots.

I am leaning towards Queen Anne's Lace because of the fine little hairs on the leaf.

Here's another picture. I'll go back and check for more signs tomorrow. There do not appear to be purple blotches & the stem has hairs on it...two indicators it's NOT poison hemlock, correct? (I just did some research)
