Awesome Blossom is an early to mid-season bloomer with possible re-bloom. It has a rust resistant rating of 2.0. Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Awesome Blossom')

I no longer have this plant in my garden, gave it all away. I have to say, I have only had one other daylily that was a worse performer than this one. Increased ok, but not a lot of blooms, rarely were they nice blooms, often splotchy & very short, even down in the foliage. I tried it in different locations, extra fertilizer, water, nothing helped it. Hopefully it performed better for its next owner. On the rare occasion when it threw out a clear bloom, it was nice, but definitely not worth the space here.

Awesome Blossom got a severe case of rust early in the year and I cut back the foliage. It bloomed in early May, but then we left for a month and I was not able to actually follow how the plant performed the rest of the year. I show no other photos so I assume it did not rebloom for me this year.

It was a rotter here.

It faded away to nothing when I lived in MD (Zone 7). Bloom was sparse.

I have a different experience than those posted above with Awesome Blossom. No it isn't the heaviest bloomer I have but it is usually the first. I've had it for several years and it has increased well for me and has had no problem surviving my zone 3 winter. It opens well even on cool humid mornings which is important as that is an issue with many daylilies in this zone.

Awesome Blossom does well here. It has been here for about four years now. Blooms early in the season. Very unusual bloom.

I got Awesome Blossom in 2009 and I have a picture from 2011 showing that it is still only two fans. I will have to go out and see how many fans it has now, but I am not too optimistic.



Based on the fact that I've had AB seven years and only have 49 pictures of it total (and I take a couple of thousand pictures or more each year of my daylilies), I can honestly say that it is not a heavy bloomer, maybe 8-10 per scape.



I do remember seeing rust on it, but don't think it was too bad.

I just love these reviews because it makes me stop and evaluate the dl's that I have to see if I really want to invest the space to keep some of them. AB is one that I may have to think about getting rid of, although it will be tough because I do like the color of the blooms.






Edited to add: I just had to go out this morning and see how many fans AB had after 7 years in my garden (no dividing and did not give any away). It had a whopping 9 fans! I am pretty sure I only started with 2 fans. However, in its defense, I found as I was digging it up to separate it that there was a one-inch diameter tree root growing next to it and a couple of good sized liatris corms inside the daylily roots. Now that the tree is gone and I've dug out that root, separated the daylilies, and planted the liatris corms elsewhere, I am looking forward to seeing what AB will do in the near future.

As Vickie noted, the bloom color is appealing. Plant increased well here, but blooms were sparse and, overall, far from awesome. Past tense. One wonders, how did this earn an Award of Merit, with so many unsatisfactory growing experiences.

I had Awesome Blossom in my garden gave it a good try for three years it just didn't do well here so a different daylily got planted in it's place.

Here is 'Awesome Blossom' in my garden this year, heavy rust again, and very few scapes, buds and blooms.
I do love the bloom however.
