I want put a lime tree in my garden by next spring. If I started the lime seed in a pot under a single energy saver fluorescent light indoors, could it stay alive untill next spring? The light stays on for most of the daytime.

Yes, you can grow one from seed. It will be big enough to put out in about 4 years.

This is my grapefruit I started from a seed I spit into a pot of dirt as a joke,my friend said it wouldnt grow, so here she is 4 years old, she's about 2 feet high and covered in thorns,sorry it isnt a better picture. I have to keep her in a pot so that I can easily bring her in for winter here in NY. Good Luck, its exciting to watch them grow.

Not a one. And I know it would already be too cold to put outside at such a young age. It's not even germinated yet. lol.

You ought to be able to do it. The light that we use to see with is of poor quality for plants. Keep the fluorescent light just 1-4 inches from the leaves, and keep the light on for 12-16 hours a day. Light isn't needed until it sprouts, but watch closely because you will want to start your lighting as soon as it begins to pop out of the ground.
