Cultivar poll time again ...... (just in time for the national elections ... Whistling )

Jon and I would like members to please pick cultivars that they OWN, that ALSO list several other owners (at "least" 3 members that have the cultivar) as "have" in the database so that more members here on ATP can post their evaluations. The more members that own a plant, the better (to have numerous evaluations). Please also make sure that you post the correct name and spelling of the cultivars you list. You can list up to 10 cultivars that you actually own and are willing to post an evaluation for when the cultivar is featured as the Daylily of the Day.

And don't forget that you can post an evaluation at any time to any of the Daylily of the Day threads. An acorn will be awarded for each evaluation. You can post "annual" evaluations of any cultivars at least a year after your previous evaluation of that cultivar. (And earn another acorn tip!) Previous featured Daylilies of the Day cultivar threads can be found in this forum:
http://garden.org/forums/view/...

Let the next list of cultivars begin ..... (list up to 10 cultivars that have NOT been featured yet, that you and other members own.) Please check the Plant Database to make sure it's not been a featured daylily of the day cultivar before adding to your list. Thanks!

This poll will end on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016. Thanks for helping choose the cultivars for evaluations!!! Thank You! Thank You!

I am bumping this thread up. If you grow some daylily cultivars that you'd like to see featured in the Daylily of the Day threads, please submit a post with your list.

Most of us here are interested in learning about any and all daylily cultivars, so please submit your list of 10. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I would if I could, Becky! As a first year DL grower, though, few of my 154 DLs bloomed this year, and fall is upon us so I won't have any more this year (darn it!).

Barbalee - If you had any that you acquired that bloomed, showed an increase, settled in quickly, or even died .... we'd like to know. This info helps other gardeners with decisions on daylily cultivar acquisitions. And you do not have to list 10, you can list less than that. But a max of 10 per poll per member. Thumbs up

I would second Larry's American Freedom since I just got that one this year, but I have zero zip info on that one because it was one of the last ones I put in the ground. No blooms, nothing....I'll vote for that one sometime next year when I have actually seen it in my yard, I suppose. Big Grin

My list:
1) Sir Blackstem - one of the last planted in my garden, but bloomed! - 4 members own this
2) Jocelyn's Oddity - 4 members own this and 1 wants it
3) Mynelle's Starfish - 20 members have this
4) Ginger Twist - 4 members have this
5) Little Grapette - 36 members have it, 1 wants it
6) Helix - 17 members have it, 4 want it
7) Open Hearth - 22 members have it, 2 want it
8) Absolute Ripper - 6 members have it, 1 wants it
9) Evening Enchantment - 6 members have it, 1 wants it
10) Black Plush - 20 members have it, 3 want it

* (...the irony...) Asterisk only shows that 2 people have it, but I'm willing to bet that more than two have it. There are also two people that want it.

This list is by no means a list of my favorites in my garden, LoL, but I was just trying to think of daylilies in my garden and see if they meet the criteria as I thought of them. Smiling

It seems to me there is some confusion as to what the criteria are to list daylilies here in the daylily poll. Only in this poll (I could have missed it) have I seen people saying they have the plant but it has not bloomed so they will wait to list it. I thought it only had to be plants you owned and that at least three people where showing to own.
I usually list plants that I am wanting others opinion of, even if it is a new plant to me. If the plant has not bloomed, I can still observe if it shows rust, it it appears to stay evergreen or go dormant in my garden, if the foliage looks nice or ratty, I suppose even notes about the exact color of green of the foliage could be noted. Also the plant might multiply pretty well (or die back) before it ever blooms. I would think just the fact that a plant took a few months to bloom or has not bloomed after several years would also be important. So am I wrong in thinking that a plant is not required to have bloomed in your garden before you list it?

Larry, I'm pretty sure it doesn't need to have bloomed. I simply said that I didn't want to vote on it yet because it hadn't bloomed because when it IS listed as daylily of the day (and I get the reminder/notification to post a comment), I'll have more to say about it. Smiling

Larry - I gave you an acorn for your question with your assumption. You are absolutely correct! A cultivar does not have to bloom for you to list and/or evaluate it. Daylily gardeners want to know how it grows for you. Listing your zone and climate is always helpful too when evaluating a plant via a post on the Daylily of the Day post. Thanks for mentioning this to clarify what the Daylily of the Day threads are all about. Thumbs up

If you have a plant that hasn't bloomed and give information, what if it then turns out you received the wrong cultivar? That happens and it happens to the best of suppliers. However, the information - good or bad - is then attributed to the wrong plant. Personally I wouldn't give info on a plant I hadn't seen bloom. Just my personal take on doing that. I'm cautious anyway.

If that were to happen Donald, then the post could be edited to say that the evaluation you posted turned out to be a different cultivar than you expected. And the evaluation could be erased (and even copied to the correct cultivar if it has been featured).

Yes, but, in the meantime, how many months would incorrect evaluations be attributed to the wrong plant? And how many people might associate it with the wrong plant because they never saw the correction? How many vendors might miss a sale because of it? I'm on record as one who would never cut off a scape on a new plant because I want to be sure a plant is what it's supposed to be. There are just so many different factors that affect how a plant grows anyway - climate, soil, sun, shade, fertilize, etc. Giving an evaluation that ends up not being correct because it wasn't the correct plant is one that can easily be avoided. It's just my way of looking at it, of course.
