Thanks Linda, I am enjoying the three left and we have plans to replace the two in the spring with new chicks.

This made me very sad
Very well written I went along visually 😢

Hey Sue, I'm so sorry about that, but please don't beat yourself up for making such a simple mistake -- I think one of the cruelties of life is that it's the simplest mistakes that can demand the harshest consequences. You certainly put my day in perspective -- I'm upset because something ransacked a suet cake and feeder overnight. I'll find something else to be upset about (trust me, I will!!)

And there isn't any such thing as "only chickens" or "only" anything you love -- go right on naming them and loving them. Something else will certainly bring you to tears, and it may be something that doesn't even deserve them -- the chickens did.

But tell me, did you get new chicks this spring??

Thanks Abbey!

I may be getting two more in June, haven't firmly decided yet. I really want to replace my favorite, that Speckled Sussex and then I picked another breed that will be close in age. I have to get them from local hatcheries so I rely on their availability. I can only have a very small number here so I pick for temperament and color too, gotta add more fun color to the garden!
