'Rhythm and Blues' salvia is a new and exciting offering for 2017 from Flowers By The Sea. It's suppose to be a much superior salvia to 'Black and Blue'. I'm looking forward to ordering it for next year and growing it in my yard. Click the link below to see the pics and read what Kermit Carter has to say about it.

The proper name for this is Savia x guaranitica 'Rhythm and Blues'. It will available in retails nurseries as Salvia BODACIOUS 'Rhythm and Blues'.

I wonder what kind of availability there will be at local garden centers this year. Monrovia has it in their catalog already, which should be a plus, but they've had 'amistad' for a few years as well and I still haven't seen that one locally.

@FBTS Kermit

Could you comment on this please?

I know I'm planning to order from you, but is it going to widespread in garden centers in 2017?

I can only repeat what I get from my sources. The propagating nurseries are shipping respectable quantities to growers across the country, and have been doing so now for months. Where and when they can be found on retail shelves is not information I am given. The US nursery industry is a complex beast, and I interface only with a corner of it.

If I get updates I'll pass them, on.

I still don't have any buds and/or blooms yet. Seems to be a slower grower, than the 'Black and Blue' I've grown before.

I might give it another try next year, but I thought I would have flowers long before this. Next year I'm going to get 'Black and Blue' again and try the 'Black and Bloom'.

This salvia has been out for a while, but I finally found a small pot of it at a local garden center in June. I cut it back a bit and gave it some fertilizer and it has responded very well. I love the deep purple-blue color of the blooms. The photo makes it look a bit paler and more purple than it is.
