HELP!
I don't have a black thumb I have two of them! My husband brought me a dozen huge Tulips last week. They are in a clear glass container and you can see the large bulbs and many roots. I read the instructions on them and it said to plant them right before the first frost. I live in Yuma, Az. and maybe two nights per year get below 40. The days are in the 60's and sometimes 70's. When should I try to plant them and in sunlight or a shady area. It usually runs up to 115 degrees in the summer, once in awhile higher.

I usually keep my tulip bulbs in the fridge for 4-6 weeks to substitute the cold weather they need 'to activate' before planting them. I plant them in full sun, mid winter (it doesn't snow here) whilst they are growing, but was suggested to keep them safe from wind and sun to preserve the flower length once bloomed.

The sad thing about tulips is that they just don't do well in warm climates. They can't handle the summer heat and they need a winter chill for 2 or 3 months. You can plant them anytime in your area. They may live for a year or two but that's it.

You could plant them in a pot and store it in the refrigerator every winter but I'm not sure what you would do about the summer heat.

Bulbs are usually sent at planting time. Plant now in location that gets a little morning sun. Tulips are one of the bulbs that need to be lifted after foliage dies back. And stored.
Preferably in frig so they get the cooling period they need to bloom next year. Next year plant them in late fall. Early winter. My bulbs were planted a couple months ago. And are growing. The frost dont hurt them. They bloom early spring. The heat is what kills em.
SO GET A PLANTING ! and dont be afraid of burying as deep as directions say !
Or they will fall over!!!
