There is now a downloadable guide available on how to customize your profile settings. The manual is available in PDF format, complete with illustrations.

To access the manual...
•-click on the 'person' icon in the upper-right corner of the Garden.Org window and click on the 'gear' icon / Settings option
Thumb of 2017-01-29/RickM/49e531

• scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the 'Need help? Download our Profile Settings Guide [PDF] link below the 'Save your changes' button.
Thumb of 2017-01-29/RickM/02a1ea

Please note...
I tried to be as clear as possible, but if you have any problem finding something in the manual, or find something to be incorrect, please let me know. I will either post a clarification or temporary corrections here. A corrected manual will be released a week or so later depending on the number of changes.

@RickM Thanks for the instructions; however the piece I wanted has no page number link. I saw, in the thread above, that I can access the home page customization from the bottom of the home page - that worked fine. When I try to edit the configuration from my profile by clicking Customize your Garden.org homepage, it locks up the screen, I have to shut down the page and reopen garden.org. So, when I found your instructions, I was looking for the home page configuration instructions specifically and noticed that the index for that topic shows Error.

Thanks Lynne. That will be corrected in the next version.

As far as your screen locking up, if it's still happening, drop a note to Dave... programmer extraordinaire

As it relates to customizing the homepage, is there a certain browser that's needed to "drag and drop?" I'm on Firefox and everything is static.

If a certain browser is required, that should be noted on the " front page" and the manual. i skimmed through the manual but don't recall reading about compatible browsers.

hmm, I'm on a MacbookPro using Firefox and I didn't have any trouble dragging and dropping to customize my home page but it's been awhile since I added anything. I'll go try to add something else to my page and see what happens.

Just dragged and dropped another to my page and it's working fine for me.

On iPad, I can't even drag things (or tag things in plant combos), so I'm afraid I can't help you. The only thing I can think of to do is notify @dave.

Any modern browser on a desktop environment should be able to do it. What version of Firefox are you running?

The iPad and some touchscreen/mobile devices have a known issue with the interface, unfortunately.

Yeah....that's the thing.... I am RARELY on a desktop. I'm ALWAYS on my mobile device or my iPad.

Sort of reminds me of message boards of yesteryear, pre-Facebook.

I only ever use a desk top. I will never use a 'mobile device'. There are still many folks using desktops for most things.

Unfortunately I don't think this problem is going to be resolved in the near future, as the code required to make the drag-and-drop functionality work on a touchscreen/mobile device in a browser is different to that required for traditional desktop/laptop environments. As Dave is the main site developer (none of the plant admins are involved in the site design or maintenance), it really depends on when he'll have time to implement this functionality for mobile platforms and what priority it has amongst all the different required or requested code changes.

The same can be said about folks who don't even own a desktop, especially now with the increased number of gardeners from last year.

I cleared my default homepage. I thought for certain it would have iPad compatibility, at the very least. Alas, it will remain empty. Too many attributes are either not relevant or interesting to me.

I think having a mobile site capability would be nice (I read on my ipad), but I also understand the demand that would put on dave to do so.

We have two ipads one stays in the garden shed and one in the house, I use my laptop as a desktop 99 percent of the time.
My wife almost never uses a computer, but stays on her phone and ipad. I do think as much as I prefer a desktop or laptop computer the mobile devices are way more popular these days.

Making the customizations work on mobile devices is definitely a priority for me. When I made the drag and drop interface for customizing the homepage, very few people used mobile devices. Now around 50% of our visitors use them exclusively. Definitely I need to do something for these folks.

All I meant by my comment is that desktops are not obsolete as many people think.

Anything that ever goes entirely 'mobile' compatible and not user friendly w a desktop, I will discontinue using. Sadly, there are many sites going more and more toward that, at some point us desktop users are going to be the ones with no options.
