My garden is bursting with new growth, but there isn't a spot of green on my lantana. Two years ago I pruned it back too far; one result was that it didn't show a ton of flowers last summer. I haven't pruned it yet this year, after getting advice here not to prune until spring.

I know the plant is alive, but I don't understand why it isn't showing any leaf buds yet? Is lantana a late starter? Is there something I should do about it, or is there anything it needs? Or maybe I should just be patient?

Thanks
Melissa

Do you get frost there?
Mine seem to need more heat before they get going.

Mine are always slow to come out. I think yours will be fine.

Does it need a drink? I think they also require well draining soil or they rot.

Lantana are always slower than you think they should be.
Doesn't mean that your plants are still alive, unfortunately... Sounds bad that they were injured to the point of not blooming...
What kind do you have?
Some types are more sensitive than others....
The high bush types here were leafing out.... And then we got that cold snap.... Black leaves on everything....

I transplanted it late last summer, into soil obtained at my nursery which I've used in all my plants, so I'm fairly sure it's draining fine. It has been a wet winter here, and my plants are somewhat protected from it, so I don't think it's root rot. I have started watering lately when we go several days without rain and the sun is out (low 70's), and it does seem to like a lot of water. Often on hot summer days I'll have to water it twice a day.

My lantana is a Lantana camara 'Landmark Rose Glow.' It has beautiful pink and yellow flowers.

I think now that I just have to be patient. Nature does things in her own time. Smiling

I have noticed that my plain orange, purple, etc come out much faster than the pink ones. They seem less hardy for some reason, but when they get going they do very well. One of our neighbors has a beautiful one that is so large, it hides his mailbox.
