Some of you asked last year which one I had… And I admitted I originally thought it was Korean spice but then looked at notes and found a different name which I'll post later. Here's the pictures as it's in full bloom now. The bud pictures are from a couple weeks ago.

The fragrance is Ah-MAZING...especially spicy as evening approaches...a wonderfully wafting scent....

The Viburnums that I have were bought in 2009 from Classicviburnums.com. They have all survived, including the tiny one that I corrected the split 3 inch tall 'trunk' with a splint (with the huge snowfall in 2010), what was left of the plant. I was able to unearth my correspondence with him, and I asked him if we can buy as a group sent to one place, then the shipping would be cheaper. He said yes. And he sent me the list of the available Viburnums. If it is okay with Jan, and if there are more people who would like to buy healthy Viburnums, I think it is a good idea. He said he could send them in a big box which could fit 10 or more about 2 gallons pots. Here is a copy of his email including available plants and their prices.

@tantefrancine Thank you for the information. I LOVE Viburnums, especially the ones with fragrant flowers. I have one that produces pink flower buds, but the flowers turn white when they open, looking very much like the one in Chantell's photos. The flowers are also fragrant. The photo of the name tag is saved somewhere that I will have to look very hard to find . So I do not remember its name at the moment.

Last year the flower buds were all eaten by deer in just one night. I am spraying them this year, hoping to keep deer away. Fingers crossed. I will take some photos of the flowers if deer don't beat me to it. That will be another challenge for John.

We might need another thread for group buy opportunities for the swap... lovin it! I'm up for viburnums! FB link didn't work for me... but I saw a ton of viburnums in his website "library." Does he have both 1 gallon & 2 gallon plants available? Looking forward to seeing his list...

I tried to upload my photos but I do not think I was successful. I have found white wild violets in my back yard, very cute, I am going to keep some of them. I think it is beautiful. I did not plant it, I guess it was a gift from a bird, or from somewhere. Took a picture, and I tried to upload a picture of that 2. 2 of my Viburnums are short, maybe 7 feet? I am now 5.5 I think, shrank 1 inch. Maybe it is the Korean Spice. Most fragrant of the ones I have. The buds are orangy pink, very light. The Mohowk is darker pink.

Francine, is there enough interest to fill a box do you think? if so, we'd better get moving...

I'll commit to 3... fragrant is good, pink or white preferable... 'Mohawk' is gorgeous. I already have V. tomentosum 'Shasta' and a V prunifolium (blackhaw viburnum) but am open to any other suggestions.

John, maybe you could eyeball that list and pick out some of your particular faves for consideration?

OK, after reading "sensually sweet fragrance" I have to add V. bitchiuensis to my wish list, and maybe one (which one??) of the Korean Spice viburnums (V. carlesii).

V. bitchiuensis crossed with V. carlesii is the hybrid V. x juddii - with much more heat tolerance, cleaner foliage, and compact denser habit. Flowers are slightly less full/solid than other selections.

I'd defy any of you to find a less lovely scent among all the fragrant species/selections listed. All good, all permeate the garden, and at least two different ones will yield cross-pollination and lead to fruit performance.

That is the one detail not yet emphasized. If you have one of a species, get another (non identical) so that cross-pollination occurs. Viburnums are poorly self-fertile, and you are only denying yourself, your garden, and your wildlife of their bounty by only planting one of a kind. Recruit a neighbor, if you don't have room for everything.

I have been seeing two versions of what I call 'Snow Ball Bush', tall 8-10+feet with smooth leaves, the difference being the color of their foliage...one a dark green and the other a medium green. The medium greens seem to be a bit more dense and floriferous than the looser med green. Both appear to be in full sun on two adjacent commercial properties, 8 plants each in a 30' hedge. Are they two types?
