I often see direct quotes from Wikipedia in the comment section of specific plants, and am wondering if there is anywhere on this site one can check to see if other sources have given a blanket approval for direct quotes. In particular, I often refer to the Missouri Botanical Garden or Washington State University as reliable resources. I don't want to step on any toes and would include their information in quotes with appropriate reference, but am unsure if that is OK or not?

I just got a new load of Japanese maples, and so far none have much information in this database so I'm trying to flesh it out with cultivar specific facts and also add photos. It's easy enough to transpose the factual info (zone, height, etc.) but these reputable sources often also include a little blurb specifically describing the characteristics.

Nothing listed here to check, each individual website lists if they allow copying of anything. Wiki has options/licenses like Public Domain or Creative Commons with different attribution options that individuals contributors chose when they add their info.

Deb, If you Google "Wikipedia Public Domain" there's a lot of information available related to what and what isn't in the public domain on Wikipedia.
