A friend of mine recently lost her child (Hannah, pictured) to cancer. I would love to have a daylily named after her, but see very few places through my internet search.

1. Carol Anderson Daylilies..... price is affordable, and I love one of the lilies; but, they didn't respond to an email I sent over 2 weeks ago.
2. Olallie Daylily..... require "Olallie" to be part of the name, and I don't want that.
3. Rainbow Hill Daylilies.... $777 seems quite high, and they only have 3 options.
4. Slightly Different Nursery.... $450-$700 is still a bit too high for my budget, and I don't see any vibrant colors in his collection.

Are there any other places? thank you! holly

That's very sad. I don't know of anyone who does this, but just a question - do you want to name it Hannah and then a surname, because there already is a registered daylily called just 'Hannah'? In total there are 21 registered daylilies with Hannah as part of the name.

Realistically, anyone here with seedlings could donate (or for a nominal fee) a clump that @Growingood could select and go through the process at AHS to register the name if you want to make it official. Of course official would be better for everyone involve. Paying seven hundred dollars is ridiculous. Why in the world would you want another name added to something when you are trying to honor someone and their family. Really!
Is everybody getting out of touch these days??? Where is the care and compassion ?
I would be first in line to donate a seedling for this cause.

I grow daylilies from seeds as a hobby. I also bought some seedlings from hybridizers last year. I am not looking to register any daylilies at this time. If you are interested, I can offer seedlings to you as a gift and you can register them anyway you like. Unfortunately, most of my seedlings are only 1 year old. But I do have seedlings that I bought from hybridizers that are more mature. I can send pics when they bloom. T-mail me if interested.

I may have this wrong. But if the seedling has bloomed, the grower of the seedling has the right to name it but not a purchaser of that seedling.

Hope I'm wrong.

The "Originator" is the person who has ownership of the entire cultivar when it blooms for the first time. The registrant doesn't have to be the originator but must have the originator's permission. See also "Permission Statements" in the registration instructions for naming a plant after someone, including someone who is deceased.

I have this seedling in a sizable clump if you're interested. I wouldn't charge much more than the cost to register and shipping to mail you a handful of fans.

Arlene, the hybridizer that I bought the seedlings from gave me permission as well as paperwork to register the daylilies anyway I like. So I do have permission from her to register them.

Now that I think about it more, you could check out seedlings on the LA and bid on one you like. Just confirm you will be receiving all of it/are permitted to register it.

I can't believe that I never saw all of your WONDERFUL replies! So thoughtful & generous! Truly!

I was able to connect with Carol Anderson, and had a wonderful experience naming a daylily "Radiant Hannah".
