What did you put "dirt" & plants into? All of my items with holes big enough for dirt to fall out are lined with window screen &/or landscape fabric.

Here's a few to start things off...

Wire desk or locker accessory

I have used some Amazon boxes as ghetto planters. I use them in my backyard for things like onions. Hey, I ran out of money and I needed to plant the onions! Working well. I think they'll last the summer, and then they'll compost really nicely.

So, I live in BFE. There's no trash service. We have to haul everything to the dump. I used to recycle everything. I mean everything! The county passed out some blue, plastic boxes to help sort out the recyclables. Aluminum, glass, paper, plastic.
After turning in my recyclables and getting a fifty cent discount on my ten dollar bill at the dump, and as I was driving away I looked in the rear view mirror. What I saw just dumbfounded me. I stopped and watched as everything I had so diligently separated to be recycled was dumped in a single truck. And that truck dumped everything in a big giant hole in the ground. That's when I learned that this poor county DOES NOT recycle.
I burn everything now ....
But those recycle bins they gave me have been recycled into planters.
This one is a little over grown. I just noticed the giant crack in it yesterday. So I'm thinking I'll go get some more and grow some carrots in them. Smiling

I love to go antiquing and find unusual planters. Such as an old trunk or vintage milk containers. It is inexpensive and creative.

This isn't hanging yet, but it will be. And as I have more stems growing to do so, I plan to stick more ornamental purslane, Sedum & others in all of the holes on the sides.

I have a "thing" for old galvanized.

I bought a 112 year old house with, I swear, the original shed on the property. The shed had quite a few pieces of galvanized buckets and tubs and old enameled dishpans. Of course I planted the ones with holes in the bottoms and found other uses around the yard for the ones without. The enameled plate in the picture with the witches cauldron is a water dish for my cats.

Now I just need to wait until its warm enough to plant!

Not sure if planting in an old trunk would be wise in my climate. Though I do collect them ... I have some good ones too. I swear this town never grew out of the 20's.
Got a few rusty milk jugs too. Been wondering what to do with them. Thanks for the idea.
Would probably be good for my giant Haworthia with its long a** tap root. ;)

Thanks to punkrockmom2006 comment I was reminded of my milk can. It covers the pipe that sticks out of the ground from my well and also as a planter. I use to have flowers but as it seems to be more of a deer feeder so I keep semps in it I have a good supply of.

I don't really try, but it happens all the time. Here's some salvage items being re-purposed.

This is my newest attempt. Styrofoam packing to float containers for a couple of plants that like wet feet. The Elephant Ear behind sits on a big section of a tree trunk, but the Juncus has the bottom of the pot in the water. I wanted the square to hold it, but that didn't work once it got the weight of potting soil. I have another square with a container floating, but I may have to find a plant that just sits in water without soil. Everything here turns into a work surface - even a sheet of styrofoam floating on water. Who'd have guessed?

An old washtub on legs. I had used the tub as a planter, but this year I set it up as a stand because I wanted Brugmansia 'Eternity' elevated and it was big enough to hold the moderate sized tree pot I wanted to use for the brug. Not especially liking the set up, but it's doing the job.

Y'all are all so creative. How about some suggestions / ideas for places to hang 'baskets'? My oak trees are out - they are at least 75 years old and tall! House has no eaves. Fence is falling down and don't want to encourage it to fall faster from the weight of hanging plants. I'm just giving the basic facts, not trying to be 'yes, but'.

So give me some clever ideas. Please?

Here's a few pictures just for fun.
