I'm still looking for that study I read. BUT ---- ran across this --- it makes for some interesting reading. Read all the posts. If I understand correctly they have even been documented overwintering in Pennsylvania.

LOL- as much as I believe in "nature's way", I admit it would be difficult to just let the little bird fend for itself in freezing temps. Ah well.

Sheryl, Something I saw said researchers believe it's due to the "global warming" thing why they are overwintering more than before.

and maybe it has something to do with more people hanging feeders

and maybe it has always been this way but now with computers zapping info. around the world in a nano second more people (& researchers) are being made aware of it

and maybe it's because there are greater #'s of seniors than ever before who sit around watching & notice nature things

and maybe it's any of these things you & I mentioned & maybe it's none & maybe these things have been considered in the research & perhaps not

and maybe i'm NUTZ!

Now, how do you suppose we can let more people know about this so they will put/keep their feeders out? I imagine a lot of people will not read this thread because they will think to themselves, "Well, hummingbirds don't overwinter where I live".

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, not at ALL! And I didn't mean to imply that Tee. In fact, I was just thinking...... why don't you do an article on the overwintering hummingbirds? THAT would get the message out! Need to tile it something really catchy though that makes people realize they just might have hummers overwintering at their house.

Oh good, thought I might have sent a confusing message about hummers that I needed to correct. I'll pass the suggestion on to Sharon. In the meantime why don't you go over to the old article and post a comment with that link in it? It's a start for anyone who comes onto the site and might read that article. I'd appreciate it.
