2017 Fall Plant Swap September 9 in Derwood, MD
Thumb of 2017-09-08/RickM/323e7e

What: 2017 Fall Plant Swap
Swap Date: Saturday, September 9, 2017
Time: Noon to 5:00 pm
Where: Rick & Larry's place in Derwood, MD. Directions will be posted at a later date.

Here are the two threads set up for the Mid-Atlantic Gardeners 2017 Fall Plant Swap being held at Rick & Larry's place in Derwood, MD.

The first thread is to let us know who is attending and what food or beverage item they are bringing for the pot luck lunch.
2017 Fall Plant Swap

The second thread is for general chat about the swap. This thread also contains information on how the swap will be conducted.
2017 Fall Plant Swap CHAT

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them to the chat thread.

If you've never been to an in-person swap, don't be shy! After all, where else can you go and hang out with a bunch of people talking about plants with enthusiasm?

As with the previous swaps...

• I know a couple of people may just keep lists on the side and not utilize the online tool, and some may simply bring their plants to the swap. That’s fine! There are even a few people each year who come just to catch up with friends and “talk plants” with people whose eyes won’t glaze over in 3 minutes. It’s all good!

• Instructions will be posted below on finding and using the seed swap tool.

• Once you've put a variety on your list, remember you need to click the box to "activate" it for this swap. (The online tool saves the descriptions so you don't have to re-enter them for different swaps.)

• You must list at least one item in the swap before you will begin receiving tickets for 'dibs'.

• The seed swap tool limits the number of requests you can make per day. This helps "share the wealth." Within a few days of the swap starting, you'll have more than enough 'dibs'

@SueD, The 'Stella d' Oro' is described as a dwarf lily. Is it really short? If yes, I would love to have some, a very few plants will do. Thank you, Sue.

yes- it is really short- more lax or open in habit than most day lilies too. I will grab some pics of some in my yard later today- i think we actually may dry up a bit (fingers crossed) i see some actual yellow light outside lol.

i need a few days of no rain- the weeds are doing the feed me routine around here- so so happy with the wet and cool. ugh

Hello,

I am interested in participating in the plant swap.
I'm not a NGA member, but would be open to joining.
Is the online tool available on August 20 and thereafter?
Please advise what I need to be prior to joining.
Thanks much.

Heya! No worries, Sue, you'll feel like you're among old friends in no time flat with this group.

I'm actually hoping to take a break and join my folks for a fishing trip (in lovely Ontario), so I probably won't be at the swap. I'll sure miss everybody, but I'll catch up with y'all online and at future events!

I wanted to note for anybody interested in semps, Santa Rosa again has their trays of "Chick Charms" (selections by the guy who bred the sunsparkler series of sedums) on sale. I don't know if you can stack a coupon on top of the special, but "FOURTH" will get you 25% off this week. I'd be "in" for one of each, if somebody wants to order a tray and split some off!

As many of you know, my summer suddenly changed to dealing with my DFIL's medical crisis and getting them moved up here to Buckingham's Choice. So I don't think I'll have much to send along with Terri (Aspenhill), but we'll see how that goes after they start settling in this weekend. (I don't want to derail this discussion, just wanted to mention the situation with regards to my plant swapping abilities this time.)
We're all learners, doers, teachers.

Hi Jill, I will miss you, and wish you lots of catches on the fishing trip. I have yet to catch one fish. I do not like to put the worms on the hook and also do not like to get the fish off the hook. Not much of a fishing person. Crabbing is more fun to me, although the crabs are usually smarter and quicker than I am. Hope your DFIL will be fine and get used to the change.
Welcome Susan. You will find the nicest people together at the swap!

Won't be able to make it to this one. Still working on moving to a new house and making plans to set up a local nursery here in Crozet, Virginia. All the plants gifted are thriving, thanks again.

Clayton, your good energy and enthusiasm will be missed this time around!
Do tell us more of your nursery plans and let us know if we can be of any help
plant or experience wise. I'm sure I am not the only one who has 'plant material' and 'could almost start a nursery myself' acutrements looking for a good home and younger bodies to carry on.
Have you heard of Perelandra and Machaelle Small Wright down your way?

BULBS BULBS BULBS

Rick and I have put a thread in the group buy forum for fall-planted bulbs and amaryllises from ADR.

The thread "2017 Fall Bulbs and Amaryllis MAG group buy -- local pickup only" in Classifieds and Group Buys forum

We'll try to get them in time for pick up at the fall swap, but if you would be unable to pick them up another time (from Rick near Rockville or from me in Frederick), then please resist this time, or make arrangements with another participant to pick up and deliver or ship your bulbs for you. I WILL NOT SHIP BULBS.

Sorry to be late in getting the ball rolling this year, but as many of you know, it was an unexpectedly busy summer with my FIL's health issues and getting Jim's folks moved up here right away.
