The first of my Schlumbergera seedlings bloomed today and I feel like I just had my first grandchild! LOL!

This is a cross of Limelight Dancer x Beach Dancer that I made in 2009. Seed was started on October 3, 2010. I have twenty seedlings. Of those 20 seedlings, 8 are going to bloom for sure. I have been told it's "nearly impossible" to get Schlumbergera to bloom in one year. It's a good thing I didn't know that, because it was always my expectation that I was going to get at least a few of them to bloom the first year. Thumbs up Whistling

So far, this is the only one of the eight that is yellow. The buds for this one were a cinnamon color that matured into the deep golden bloom that you see. (Like an idiot, I didn't get a picture of the color of the bud.) If I decide to keep and name this one, it will be "Keystone Cinnamon Moon."

A more head-on view of the face of the flower. It has wide and fat petals like it's parent "Beach Dancer."

I know-- isn't it awful when they're so slow? My husband says that they aren't growing because I'm watching them all the time! Hilarious!

I posted some pictures of the seedlings that have bloomed so far on my website, in case anyone cares. It's really interesting how they are all so different. There doesn't seem to be one trait that is carrying forward more than the others right now. There are 9 out of 20 seedlings that have budded up.

Sherry, what patience and what wonderful rewards. I am green with envy. I have never been able to grow a seedling of any kind that actually lived. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
