Decided to just start a new thread so folks can avoid repeats on the June Blooms thread. I've accumulated a few I want to share, but I'm going to start with one today of a single scape on 'Navajo Narrative'. There were half a dozen fans on the clump, but they produced only two scapes. When I saw new scapes I thought maybe they were just delayed scapes, but on examination they appear to be what I think is true rebloom which is when a single fan produces a scape and forms to fans on either side and the 2nd fan off that division matures rapidly enough to produce a scape of its own. That's just my personal thinking. The plant was a single fan last spring, so I expect all the fans aren't mature enough yet to produce scapes. Anytime the scapes produce later blooms than the first round, the effect is the same. This is a nice effect this morning for this one.

This was the last bloom on a rebloom scape of 'Tusk'. It was the first rebloom scape again this year. Rebloom, or late, scapes really push the length of bloom for a plant. 'Tusk' had more rebloom scapes last year than this year. The rebloom has occurred so early in the daylily bloom season that it is almost unnoticeable because so many other plants have started to bloom. I like that.


I hope others will throw some of their photos and thoughts in this thread. It's not my idea or intention to make it a thread about only those plants I'm growing.

I'm not sure this is really rebloom on 'Whip City Carnie'. It may be delayed bloom caused by up-sizing to a larger container. The fans were good-sized fans and I had expected to see more scapes early and they didn't show up. The single original scape was brown and pulled loose from the clump shortly after the two scapes blooming now began to bloom. Same difference in the timing gap.

Good ones, Donald. Waiting for rebloom scapes on my Navajo Narrative. They come fairly early. Voodoo Dancer reblooms for me, but usually in August.

Debra, 'Navajo Narrative' is still blooming. I keep looking for more new scapes because so many fans look mature enough. So far they haven't put up any scapes this year. It's still a good run for length of bloom. Some of the buds on the rebloom scapes have fallen off, but there were above 20 buds on each scape, so there has still been a good show. That's not limited to 'NN'. I think when I fail to provide moisture soon enough after the heat, the plants compensate by shedding a few buds. It's a chore to keep up with giving the containers water and really hard to tell when it's needed. I know those that I leave in pans with water don't exhibit the same stress as those that depend on me. I guess I could invest in a few dozen child swimming pools and raise daylilies and mosquitoes.

Um, I think I'd forego the mosquito nursery. They get kind of rowdy as adults.

I forgot that Oktoberfest also reblooms for me, but I shared out some fans, so it may not this year..

Things are really beginning to wind down now. Some of the later blooming varieties are finished and some of those that rebloomed are also done. Those that rebloom are going to last a while because some scapes just showed up so much later. Here are some from today.

'Reason for Being' with four scapes that just started blooming a couple of days ago:



'Searing Wind' - I wish all the blooms had done what this last bloom is doing. I hope in another season they can hold the bloom up and not droop like bells. Both the first scapes and the rebloom scapes had blooms that were weakly attached. I suspect this one is only managing because of the lack of a breeze so far today:



'Orange Clown' had the rebloom scapes already growing before the first ones bloomed so they have been more like continued bloom since there was some overlap. Nearing the end now. With these large blooms and their bright color, it makes for a show when only a couple are open:



'Chesapeake Crablegs' is a later bloomer, so having rebloom scapes is really going to extend its bloom time. The plant performance gets the 'most improved' award this year, though early on I thought 'Tusk' might deserve it due the improvement in the blooms. Gotta go with this one, not so much for improved blooms, but the number, height and rebloom scapes and general fan growth are a huge improvement. The overlap between the first scapes and the rebloom is really going to extend the weeks of bloom for it. I suspect this one would really like being in the ground instead of a container:



'Banshee Baby Talk' is another late blooming one for me that now has rebloom scapes. They also had some overlap with the first scapes, but there are only two scapes:



There are still others reblooming which I've posted before and a couple that haven't started blooming yet. Some of the rebloomers are seedlings.

I noticed rebloom scapes popping up on Mister Lucky, which is still blooming, and on Karen Sue, which only put out about a dozen blooms on three scapes- it's new this year, so I'm cutting it some bud slack. Everything else seems not to realize that we're past peak- it's been a very gradual slowdown...

I have proliferations on Phial of Galadriel, Lullaby Baby (it's not a deformed scape, but a bloomed prolif now), Paul Aucoin and it looks like Fashion Rings is trying to make a proliferation. Last year, I had one proliferation total. I'm surprised at the number of them this year. Is there anything that contributes to prolif development?

I've wondered about that myself. I have a lot again this year - mostly on seedlings. My observation is that some cultivars are more inclined to produce proliferations than others. 'Green Arrow', e.g., and it's descendants seem really inclined to produce prolifs a lot more than others.

Boundless beauty has been blooming for months. It keeps blooming and blooming.

Too hot out to do much today, heat index approaching 120 degrees. So I mowed the lawn early and then took some rebloom photos. By this time of the year, things are slowing down, plants are looking haggard, leaves are turning brown and the garden has an overall tired overheated look about it. However, some of the plants that were cut back for one reason or another are perking back up. Still, peak bloom is well past, and so I thought it would be a good time to take photos of the plants in my garden that actually rebloom. I found out pretty quickly that that appears to be nearly all of them. I am thinking there would only be a very few that will not rebloom (not counting plants just planted this year). I started doing some hybridizing so I stopped deadheading for the past few days and that even makes the garden look more exhausted, but I am getting seed pods. I think I can go back to deadheading soon, and too there aren't nearly as many blooms now to deadhead as there were back in late May and Early June.
I won't attempt to show nearly all of them, but I asked myself when I started to try and select the prettiest bloom in the garden today, it got much harder the further I went along. But I liked that idea and will try to keep that in mind when I go out in the morning from now on.

My garden was looking a little haggard, but I pulled off dead leaves, fertilized, and have been watering regularly, so everything is perking back up again. I, too, have seen more rebloom this year than ever before. Not all are reblooming, but quite a few, much to my delight! And I, too, have been hybridizing some of those reblooms. Nice to have an extended bloom season.

Pretty much caught up in the garden, besides it is too hot to do almost anything but take photos.
