It looks like my Brother's Grimm rose may be mismarked. Color looks about right, orange and yellow but no scent whatsoever. There was one left at work that was fully open the other day and no scent. Grumbling Looks like I'm going to have to go through a nursery to get the correct one.

I often find that roses labeled as having a strong fragrance, have none at all to my nose - at least in my climate. Try smelling it early in the morning.

I have never detected a fragrance on Rose (Rosa 'Gebrueder Grimm') and I have 2 of them. What does the foliage and blooms look like, any photos?

Amanda, I've never detected fragrance from my Brothers Grimm either. Are the leaves glossy? I really like the glossy leaves on mine.

Usually Japanese beetles flock to yellow roses first, but so far they haven't been too bad on Sunny Sky, which is putting on a nice 2nd flush of blooms.

Dortmund that I thought I had lost and rescued a tiny sprig I found among the weeds, continues to rebound and has a new cluster of blooms.

Tess of the d'Urbervilles has begun a great 2nd flush, and hasn't been bothered by the beetles yet.

Neal,
Are you seeing any JBs?
I saw a deformed one about 2 wks ago. Where are they? Is my schedule off? Maybe the weather?

The color of it is spot on so it looks good but doesn't smell which sucks. The label it came with mentions strong scent and I thought I read it elsewhere but that must have been one that slipped by me. Rolling my eyes. Glad to know it's not just me on the fragrance on Brother's Grimm.

To make myself feel better I went sniffing after work and found Francis Meilland by scent then by pot. I nabbed it and it's going to replace the bag baby Peace rose that died out. Hurray! Was going to get Olympiad but Francis got me instead. Hilarious!

@gemini_sage, Neal ... Sunny Day's yellow really pops ! Beautiful photos ... I tip my hat to you.

Brother's Grimm bud. There's some more yellow in it but the lighting wasn't too great for catching it.

Deal that came with Brother's Grimm. I had one for Baden Baden but dog next door may have taken it. Shrug!

Yeah, they made that fragrant part up on Brothers Grimm, a selling tactic.

I kept double checking all the roses with our database to make sure they were hardy and had scent but this one slipped by me with the scent. Baden Baden's tag says light fragrance but our database says moderate which is more my style. Hilarious! But both look like they will be gorgeous so I will keep them and let the others carry their weight. Hilarious!

My main purpose for putting them there is to provide privacy from our neighbors and to keep the dogs from remaking the trail from the road up our yard and into theirs. Plus only good spot for roses since I live on a gravel road that's made of limestone which means a lot of dust.

Tisha, the Japanese beetles are out and active here now. Their preferences seem to change from one year to the next- they're most active right now on my Kwanzan cherry and Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate, but I noticed yesterday they've now discovered all the new buds on Golden Fairy Tale and are flocking to those- there goes that 2nd flush of blooms Grumbling

The beetles have also been heavy on Westerland. While they typically just destroy the blooms and buds, they're also eating the new leaves on Westerland. Orange Corsaire is right next to it and until yesterday they hadn't touched it, but yesterday I saw that the leaves nearest to Westerland were being eaten too. They don't seem to care so much for the blooms on Orange Corsaire.

I've noticed leaf damage at work too. So far no leaf damage here except on my new rose but as long as I don't have the beetles hiding on there out of sight I don't care.

A beetle or 2 isn't too damaging, but when a mass of them show up its pretty nasty and they make quick work of whatever they're on.

Lilli, I'm just thankful for the glorious May and early June display I got to enjoy. The plants will be fine, and now I'm enjoying lots of lilies, daylilies, and phlox. And the beetles don't seem to care for red roses very much, so some of those are putting on a nice display too. Hurray!

Brothers Grimm bloom and bud today. I did detect a very mild scent off it today which made me happy. Hilarious! I had to bury my nose but I found it. I did make sure no beetles were hiding in there. They were too busy feeding on my coneflowers today. Thumbs down
