Two of my seedlings sent up scapes this late in the season. Both happen to bloom today.

Another seedling from WB My Fluffy Baby x Carved Complexity cross. The bloom looks very similar to its sibling that bloomed last month.

These blooms are whiter in person but their ruflles get stucked and need help to open. It was rather cool this morning so maybe it does not open well in cool weather? It has nice branching though. Would you count the branching on this scape as five way or four way branching?

Blooming October first:

Sweet Seneca Cameo--both are polys, although not so easy to see on the second one.

Dragon Dreams--just having a scape this late was a plus but the bloom is quite a poly, never seen this before. There is another sepal, it is hidden behind a petal. I can only speculate that this is weather related with these late blooms.

Blooming today, Oct. 2:

Sweet Seneca Cameo, another poly.

Two Sues--fabulous flower on a new scape. I just wish my camera would not wash out the color of the watermark, it is supposed to be persimmon and therefore darker.

I've been getting occasional blooms since the first one in late August on PHILL, and it has now sent up a total of 3 scapes.

PHILL WARBASSE

I grow most of my daylilies in pots now, since I need to move them indoors for pollinating, and whenever I move one around I make sure that all the scapes have circle stakes holding them in place. Early on I made the awful mistake of just picking up the pots and walking along with them, and I lost more than one scape that just snapped off; so I make sure that won't happen again. But unfortunately sometimes the circles show in my photos, as is the case with the picture taken in the shade.

Great blooms everyone! Can't believe that we still have blooms in Oct.! Just found a new scape on Alloy!

Avedon, I really like your Dragon Dreams and Two Sues! Does Dragon Dreams bloom double all the time?

Wow, Phill W. looks gigantic! Is it more than 9", Betty?

@Karen, this is the first time I have ever seen a poly on DD, it has always bloomed single.

Betty, Phil Warbass is very striking.

It's only registered at 5.5" and I don't think I've gotten a bloom that's more than 6"-6-1/2". But the blooms are long and tapered, so that probably makes them look bigger. And I think the colors are fantastic -- especially the green!

Betty,
Your photos are always beautiful, with or without the stake showing!

I don't usually pot up my daylilies, but when I do I use these types of stakes also...they are perfect for daylilies and very durable for the cost of them.

I used these stakes extensively in my seedling bed this year, for a dual purpose. First, they help remind me that a scape is in the foliage and help deter me from stepping on it or bumping into it and breaking it off (my seedlings are planted in close rows and as the foliage grew it was harder to determine the exact placement of your foot--sometimes I'm just clumsy!). Second, I attach a piece of surveyor tape to the stake with the cross labeled on it. This is an easy way to visually mark seedlings for the bloom season without the hassle of metal plant markers.

Keep those pics coming...stakes or not!
